  • Noise on acceleration after injectors. boost leak?

    Hi all,
Just got my injectors done and today I noticed a noise under acceleration. Seems to come from the passenger side of the engine bay.
I can't hear it while revving stationary but I can hear it while accelerating under load. The passenger in the car said she couldn't hear anything. She isn't a car person so not sure about the reliability of that.
Have been driving the car for 4 days since the injectors and this arvo is the first time I've noticed it.
Hear it better with the windows up than i do with the windows down.
There doesn't appear to be any loss of power.
I have done an inspection of the induction system and have checked all the hose clamps and tightened them just to be sure. Have also checked their position on the metal part to make sure they are making a seal.
I can't see any visible gaps between any of the gaskets on the metal section of the induction.
Can't feel any rips/holes in the silicone induction hoses.
From what I understand about replacing injectors the induction system only gets removed up to the butterfly? About 8 months ago I did remove up to and including the elbow to clean. When reinstalling I did possibly cross-thread a bolt on the EGR but it still did tighten down and I couldn't see a gap so I left that for future me to deal with. Maybe future me ha become present me and now i have that problem??

I am hoping that the new injectors have made the engine quieter, therefore i am just hearing normal noises that I couldn't hear before but any suggestions of what to check will help.
    Cheers!

Just further to my previous. Comes on just after idle and and goes away at around 2200 RPM or so. Seems to not happen whilst at 100% throttle.
    Thinking maybe EGR????
I have a 7mm restriction plate in but have had that for 40,000km or so and not noticed it.

You haven't yet mentioned what the noise sounds like...

So I spend some time trying to find the noise. Used the carby cleaner trick to find a vacuum leak but no luck.
But what I did find is a lot of soot around where the EGR pipe connects to the EGR cooler. Maybe I have a crack in my EGR cooler? Sounds expensive....
Or the other thought is there could be a leak in the intake manifold at that end but one would think it wouldn't be black soot if it were.

Most likely a crack in the EGR, its a known issue if they are handled rough, when working on them. Who did the EGR plate and injectors? Been plenty of cases where they damage the EGR cooler pipe.

I did the EGR plate myself, but around 40,000km ago so I may have weakened it. Injectors were done by a shop down Adelaide.
Do you know if the cooler can be welded if its cracked? I can't find a price online for a new one.

So took it to the mechanic today. Confirmed broken EGR cooler. Awaiting parts then will be done early next week. Parts mob here quoted me $685 for the genuine part. The mechanic doing it used a dealer in WA and got the part for $550. $135 Alice Springs tax!!

Just got it back from the mechanic today. This was the damage to the cooler. They think that when I put my EGR restriction plate in I caused a small crack in the pipe (see picture). The second error I made is i missed the re-installation of one of the mounting bolts for the cooler. This allowed extra movement in the cooler. Eventually it wore down and made a circumferential crack in the pipe and sheared it right off.

Report is that it cracked when i self-installed a EGR restrictor. It jsut took a few Km's to fully let go.
