I have been speaking to Steinbauer and managed to get some firm settings for the fine tune. Apparently, with the snorkel and free flow muffler, the best setting overall is position 3 o'clock. I have tried a number of settings and although position 4 o'clock really hits hard, I tend to agree that 3 is the best driving set up (the 944 km was on setting 4). After driving 944 km with the new set up, I refilled the Prado this afternoon and was quite surprised.
I towed a full car (three kids, two adults and holiday stuff), along with a 900 odd kg camper steel camper trailer a total of 720 km thru the great dividing range down thru the New England area, back to the Hunter Valley. There were some serious hills and long climbs in this drive and the car went well. I did 120 km around town this week and a short 100 km return drive down the highway and home this morning for work stuff.
When I refilled the Prado, it worked out at 12.2 liters per hundred kilometers. Considering the somewhat 'spirited' driving I have been venturing into since the SB went on, I was quite shocked at the results. I have all terrain tyres, twin batteries, a lift and a nice big steel bar on the front of the Prado and none of these do much to promote economy.
Pretty impressed to say the least !
