  • I have been speaking to Steinbauer and managed to get some firm settings for the fine tune. Apparently, with the snorkel and free flow muffler, the best setting overall is position 3 o'clock. I have tried a number of settings and although position 4 o'clock really hits hard, I tend to agree that 3 is the best driving set up (the 944 km was on setting 4). After driving 944 km with the new set up, I refilled the Prado this afternoon and was quite surprised.

I towed a full car (three kids, two adults and holiday stuff), along with a 900 odd kg camper steel camper trailer a total of 720 km thru the great dividing range down thru the New England area, back to the Hunter Valley. There were some serious hills and long climbs in this drive and the car went well. I did 120 km around town this week and a short 100 km return drive down the highway and home this morning for work stuff.

When I refilled the Prado, it worked out at 12.2 liters per hundred kilometers. Considering the somewhat 'spirited' driving I have been venturing into since the SB went on, I was quite shocked at the results. I have all terrain tyres, twin batteries, a lift and a nice big steel bar on the front of the Prado and none of these do much to promote economy.

Pretty impressed to say the least !

      • At 62000k's I reconciled my fleet statement and came up with actuals of 10.3l/100kms for the life of the vehicle. No mods or extras VX D4D auto. Towing 2t boat & trailer average from 14 to 17 depending on speed and wind, boat is 3.2m to the hardtop. 40% commuting, 50% touring highway and mountains, often with roof pod, and the remaining 10% towing.

Overall I am suitably impressed, I reckon that is a good result considering the amount of crap we carry to go away as a family of four, and included a trip to Tassie with most of my workshop in/on it. For a 2.4 ton vehicle it has exceeded my expectations by as much as my planned Kim's on the lease ( planned 50k did 62, what can I say, it eats up the miles).

The trip meter is about ten percent optimistic based on spot checks, reckon that is to minimise consumer noise, after all it's a computer, it must be right mustn't it?

Glad I spent the extra grand for D4D over petrol, even taking into account the price difference between unleaded and diesel that I estimate around $600 to date.

Your mileage may vary as they say.

        Cheers

        Thy

        • At the 35774km mark our average to date is 12.1 ltrs/100kms so it seems a bit higher than most but this figure includes a 6000km trip towing our van down through NSW/VIC and averaging 16ltrs/100kms.....

That's purely working out from my records that I keep which is different to what the Lease company has quoted....

With this Year-to-date though, we are still only averaging 11.7ltrs / 100kms with the missus driving around town dropping kids off to school and shopping, etc....

          • At 34,409km my records show 10.45L/100km, 3,720.26L, at average $1.447/L for a fuel cost of $0.152/km.

I use an app on the iPhone called Road Trip LE, which stores, calculates and shows all this sort of info.

            • 150kms all around town 14l/100 driving pretty modestly. not what i was expecting when the sticker says 10.6/7.3
I hope it gets better as it wears in.

              • Been sitting around 10.5 litres per hundred km for a few weeks.. Thought it might get better today when I went for 400km round trip to Gunnedah. This arvo, after a few hrs off cruzin at around 100kph it was still the same ? I pulled the air filter to find the bottom gauze blocked up and pretty dark looking. I ripped the gauze off and bashed the filter, which removed a heap of fine dust crap. Once I did this, the fuel dropped on the dodgy Toyota in dash computer thingy from 10.6 L/100km averge down to 9.4 L/100km average ! The live read out while driving was around the mid eights per hundred km.

I cleaned out the filter again when I got home, with compressed air and it is spotless now. Time for a new filter on Monday .

                • Just got back from a trip to the flinders ranges and was averaging 14-15l/100kms . It was high way driving plus a bit of offroading no towing. Ive got a kaymar dual wheel carrier, ARB bullbar and roof rack plus awning, dual batteries and Mickey Thompson 4rib ATZ(265 70). It seems a bit high to me, what are others getting with the same mods.

We just got back from a Trip across the Simpson and our AVG economy for the whole trip was 12.8ltrs/100kms. That's with ARB bar & Dual batteries + Roofrack & Rooftop Bag full to capacity. I thought that was ok overall. I did notice while crossing the Desert that the ScangaugeII did get up to 17.5ltrs/100kms (with A/C on) at one point in the soft dunes. This section between fuel stops from Birdsville to Coober Pedy avg 15.5ltrs/100kms.

I got mine up to 32 on the weekend. Towing at GCM up hill into a tremendous head wind. Could barely hold 3rd gear.
