    Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

    Howdy all,

There is a huge difference between the onboard computer and a real calculation. I only have 500 klms on my D4D, so things will no doubt improve over time, but while the car tells me I'm averaging 9-10 litres per 100 k's, my ipod app tells me it's really 12.7! This is a huge difference, and more than a little dissapointing.

    Cheers

      Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

      Hi all
My D4D trip computer is a little optimistic, but only 0.5 l/100km. I have just finished a trip Sydney-Top End - Red Centre over 12,000km over 18 days and actually averaged 8.7 l/100km. No trailer, but loaded up with camping gear. A couple of areas under ideal conditions was 7.4 on the computer. (ideal conditions = a through the night run at 90kmh, and another day with a howling tail wind). Travelling around Kakadu on 4wd and dirt tracks and later getting out of Oodnadatta in the mud after a storm passed through overnight saw 10.0 on the trip computer. Overall, pretty happy with both the actual fuel consumption and reasonable accuracy of the on board computer.
      Cheers

        Are you sure?.........

I would be dissapointed as well...... I can get better than that from my old pre-D4D Diesel.

          Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

Well we hit the 40000k mark this morning on the way to work. Whilst I have been disappointed with the mileage/Kilometerage/fuel usage of the Prado, it does appear to have settled down over the last 600km. Now averaging 7.6l / 100km I am happy. I do expect this may even drop a little when the snorkel is fitted.
I am not a wossey driver either, I drive the vehicle fairly hard, not a total lead foot, but heavy would be a closer mark. Add to this that I carry a fridge and drawer system in the back all the time and I have a steel bar on the front, I believe that what I get is most likely the lower limit.
Compare this to the previous cruiser, and I am laughing. Whilst at times, I miss the size, over all I am very very happy with the current choice. I do average 60 - 70k per year and I could not face another year of driving a tank around again.

            Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

I am averaging right on 10l/100km . Driving around town is killing it, sitting around 110-120 on hwy and freeway as indicated on speedo brings it back down a bit. Done about 5000km now.
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Sidewinder`s Dual Battery isolator and rear power outlet kit. Pirana Battery tray, Hayman Reese towbar with Toyota wiring kit and Brains`s guard.

I would check this App is not Km/L............ 12.7km/l is 7.87l/100km. Just a thought. I've got 3500km up now for an average of 7.8L/100km. Mostly city but has had a little bit of towing the boat too, so am pleased so far.

                Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

I have now got 7826 on the ODO and by my calculations I am getting 11.72 l/100km and the computer says 11.2 l/100km so pretty much spot on. I do mostly short trips around town not much highway driving so I don't think that is too bad. Driving to Canberra from Sunshine coast in early September so it will be interesting to see what I get on a good long run and it will have just had it first 'proper' service just before I go.

                  Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

I have serious doubts about the accuracy of my trip computer. With a full tanks of fuel it says i can only drive about 1200km. Yet it also says i do 8.1l/100km. If my maths is correct i should be getting closer to 1800km out of a tank. Am i missing something here? I feel like im taking crazy pills.

I think i will have to start doing manual fuel usage calculations.

The figures mentioned here are unbelievable for 4WD's weighing in excess of 2.5 tons.... technology certainly see's some wonderful advances, even in my short time on this planet 8)

                      Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

Latest real world measurements returned 10lt/ 100k (120lt for 1215 klm)

Big difference from the on board computer.

Same here, I have been trying to work out if I am driving it to hard or that the computer is full of crap, I can get around 11l/100kmmost of the time through the city but my wife can get it to 8.8L driving it to the coast...

                            Diesel Fuel Economy

My last tank the on board computer had me doing 11.6/100. Real world figures have me at 12.2/100 so reasonably close. This is all city driving and I only have 2200ks on the clock and mods have been completed.

                            Must get some pics up.

                              Hi All

Just clocked over 20,000 km in a 150 GXL Auto, fitted with ARB bar, no roof rack and standard tyres..

Driving is a mixture of highway, city and some towing (caravan and large ski boat)

Travelled 20,413 km using 2019.54 litres , therefore economy is 9.89lt per 100km.
As a comparison, the vehicle trip comnputer average which has not been reset for approx 15,000km is 9.1lt per 100km.

                              Regards

                                Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

Pick up my car on Wensday fitted snorkel and bull bar drove 100km to get new tyres fitted got the fuel down to 9.9l per 100km on the way there.
Got new tyres fitted 265/70/17 Goodyear MTR Kevlar on the trip home fuel went up to 11,3l per 100km and this was all Highway Mackay to Prosipine .
I hope the fuel acc gets better with a few more KM.
I dont know how anyone can get 7.6l average when i could't get it to go below 9.9l on the highway sitting on 102km speed limit in north QLD.
Looks like I got a Friday build car.
