  • Only done 6000 km with TJM steel bar and towbar - averaging 9 litres/100 km since new.

    • 33000klms, was getting as good as 8.6L/100klms, have added bullbar, lights, winch and dual battery, now getting around 9.8L/100klms

        A small price to pay for safety, i near cleaned out a roo last weekend braking from 80kmph, skippy crossed the front of me and i missed him by about 3m when i was still doing about 40-50, i seen the bugger coming but it was his mate behind him than nearly caused the damage. Bar, winch, lights and UHF goes on in 2 weeks , cant wait.

        • Just curious here.... All these sub 10 figures that everyone are quoting... is this city driving, because if it is, then I don't know how u guys are doing it. We get around 11ltr/100kms on avg around town....

          It would be interesting if people would fill their tanks up until they can "actually SEE" the fuel tank is full and do this a couple of times and then workout their economy using kms & litres used instead of using the trip computer and see if their figures are the same.....
          I do this all the time and the 2 figures are "never the same", the Trip computer always gives u a "better" figures than u actually get in "real-life". The Trip computer for our car is usually on avg 0.5ltrs/100kms out. This is the same on our Aurion as well. I've never seen one of these in car Trip Computers being accurate..... except for the Scangauges here u can factor in % errors/differences......

          With H'way driving, the error/difference in figures "may be" more similar though....

          I have done nearly 25000km and the computer trip meter usually sits around 10l / 100km but when I full up it always works out higher, typically 12l/100 km. When I did proper calcs it was out by 17%.
          The distance to empty is far more accurate. I can get better fuel economy, if I acc slowly and back off a bit. But as a rule don`t nurse it and will sit on 108 in 100 zone and 120 on 110 zone to allow for the speedo reading high.

          • I do a calculation when I fill back up, based on the litres used/kms travelled, and you are right, the two figures arent the same, but they dont seem to be too far out. We live in suburbia, not in the city, so there is a mix of driving, 60, 80 and 100k limits. We went to Sydney last weekend, the trip claimed to be doing 8.6L/100km which has brought the average for this tank down a bit. Im expecting once all the gear is on the truck and I have it lifted with bigger tyres, Ill probably be between and 11 and 12L / 100km.

              Just finished a 3,000K round trip to Bris is our stock 150. Came in at 7.8L/100 which was very nice. Wasn't too much weight and it was off the trip computer.

              • Recent 1000k trip towing 1600kg camper sitting on 105km/hr came out at 13.3l/100km average on hilly terrain, which is very similar to a previous trip. I always calculate based on actual fuel put in and kms traveled as I find the trip computer varies anything up to 10% from actual.

                I always run tyres at F42/R45 on the highway and F38/R38 around town.

                Good to know that the fuel gauge is accurate, warning light comes on consistently with 20l left. Put in 145l this time so tank must be very close to 150l actual capacity.

                I really find some of these figures around 8l/100km hard to believe, best I can get around town is 11l/100km (measured) which would mean that my car is 35% less fuel efficient than the best figures.

                For some of these results to be useful really need to know:
                - how measured
                - vehicle load
                - terrain
                - average speed
                - tyre pressures
                - vehicle mods

                • Tyre size will make a difference too, notice you are running 265/70/17 standard is 265/65/17
                  Bigger tyre and more aggressive type generally means more rolling resistance, from what I understand mud terrains have a bigger effect than HWY tyres. So generally mean an increase in fuel used.
                  Going to 70 from 65 means that in real life your speedo is closer to being more accurate instead of reading low. Also with each wheel rotation you travel further which will change the reading of the trip meter.
                  stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
                  but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats.                     I try always to fill my Tank up until I can actually see the Tank is full and then also use the kms travelled & Fuel used to work out economy. I've also notice that the speedo in inaccurate as far as speed goes, but the distance travelled is correct and is the same for ScanGauge & GPS unit. Using the speedo reading on the ScanGauge even shows a difference between what it reads and what the speedo is reading and this info is coming directly from the Car's Computer. May be this is done on purpose to help prevent people from speeding.... ?

                        • Around town with the stock wheels / tyres (265/60/18) the reading from the computer sits around 12l/100kms, recently out bush, it went up to 16.9l/100kms (MTR Kevlar 265/70/17's on which were deflated to 22psi, the rate of travel was around 15km/h across sand, rock and was towing a 1.2 tonne camper, combination of all things to make sure efficiency went out the window!)

                          Babs - Fuelled up it usually shows the distance at around 1200 kms. Recently i travelled from Darwin to Alice (highway 110km/h + towing) and had an average of just over 13l/100kms - so it is not too far off the mark with an unchanging environment, but decreases significantly with other factors (off road). I still have 2 jerries!

                            • We filled our diesel gxl up at dubbo after travelling from toowoomba with the van. With the fuel warning light on and computer saying a range of only 25km left ,we were able to only put 128 litres in. This morning after travelling 2km to the van park and back we easily put another 12 litres. This seems to support the foaming theory put forward in earlier posts.

                              • After 44,000klm all of life is 9.1lt / 100 with an average speed of 61kph
                                This incudes some towing, some light 4WDing, paddock driving and an excellent country commute to work.
                                Overall I could not be happier

                                Have an identical 150 Prado that has almost an identical all of life average with 26,000 klm on the clock
