Greetings all - first post. I've had my diesel GXL for about 1600km now and it has developed a very noticeable vibration at 1500rpm regardless of which gear the auto box or me has selected. I demonstrated this to the dealer at the 1000km service and was advised the source was the air inlet vibrating where it passes through the RH guard. During testing they noted the RH guard vibrated like crazy. They managed to reduce the level of the vibe - (though it is still there and mildly annoying) and they have put a report into Toyota about it and have asked me to report further. Anyone else seeing this problem?

Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm
G'day Sozjot,
Think it may be in a post elsewhere also, but it definitely is a known problem in the D4D.
I had mine in for a service a few weeks back, and they mentioned they could fix it, under the RH front guard they mentioned is where it is stemming from.
I was time poor, and said I would wait untill next service, but it seems to be getting worse, and I don't think I can hold out that long, it's driving me bonkas !
Cheers

Thanks Ben. I'll let you know how I get on with getting this rectified. It is the only disappointing thing about the vehicle (so far at least).

Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm
At least it's not just me! I spoke to the dealer this evening (they work until 0200!!) but the guy I need is away until Monday. The correct term for "the report to Toyota" is a DPR - Dealer Product Report. Can I suggest we all insist on our respective dealers submitting a DPR? I had a PM from a PP mate today who told me his dealer said there was nothing they could do about it. Sounds like a lazy dealer/service dept boss! Remember it the squeaky wheel that gets the grease (or the vibe fixed in this case).
I'll let you all know what my guy has to say on Monday. Dealers must hate the internet and sites like this.
Cheers,

Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm
Greetings all - I spoke to the dealer's service manager and he hasn't heard back from Toyota but promised to follow up. He said they had seen another 150 D4D with the same vibe issue and not all of them do it. Could I ask those of you that do not have the vibe to post a reply saying as much please as it might help narrow down the problem. I guess the next step (assuming this is not a widespread problem) is to start looking at VIN numbers and build dates.
Non-vibers - please post! :mrgreen:2010 GXL Diesel, Cooper AT3's, TJM T13, Scanguage II, Sandgrabba's, Ridepro springs and shocks, dual battery, Icom 440N, Rhino pioneer tray...

Non-vibers - please post!
At various speeds the dash, the door trim, the windows, the console and a few other things resonate. I have to leave coins and keys and such like in material or foam bags to stop them making a noise too.
The sterring wheel and pedals transmit the vibration and on a longer trip it is very tiring.
It feels like something from the engine is not isolated from the chassis or body.
Compared to the 2.8 Lt GU Patrol I traded in it is "agricultural".
The service people have driven it and agree that it is not right and have submitted a report to whomever they report to but have told me not to hold my breath.
Oh what a feeling! :cry:155 SX with dual battery and Polyairs in the rear springs..

Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm
Hi Soz,
Just drove home and made note of what happens at 1500 RPM
1. The natural point for the auto box to change gears appears to be between 1500 & 1700 RPM
2, The vibration at 1500 RPM in 5 gear is noticable more if on an incline.
3. it feels like I want to throw it back a cog which is what I would do if I was driving a manual.
The conclusion I came to is the gearing progression settings is too low. It appears to also be related to those that have had the transmission warning light coming on when the vehicle is going uphill. It appears to be trying to conserve too much in the Econ range.
I would be interested in hearing from some one with a manual box to see if there is the same problem

Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm
hello felllo vibers,
Rang toyota aust yesterday(sick of waiting for my dealer) they have created a case file.

Could i ask all of you to ring toyota as well (Customer Experience Centre - (toll free) 1800 252 097 (Mon to Fri 8am - 6pm AEST)
The more case files the better.
Will post toyota's responce when(if)they ring me back.
Do any of you vibers know what is generating this vibe, i think it is being generated from the transmission!!

Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm
Hi Maccais,
I rang The Toyota Customer experience Centre as you suggested. They were very professional and took note of the issues of the 1500rpm vibration.
I mentioned to the representative that there is a Blog referring to the issue on Pradopoint.com and he acknowledged they thay were aware of the site but not of the specific subject "D4D Vibration at 1500rpm".
HOWEVER!He stated that for action to be taken on any issue such as this we need to log the issue with them as they do get calls stating that many have registered a concern on this site but not registered it with Toyota and for them to rectify any fault they need our call. I support your view that I would encourage you to report the issue with toyota at the l (Customer Experience Centre - (toll free) 1800 252 097 (Mon to Fri 8am - 6pm AEST)
