        Hi all,

I am a new member and this is my first Post.

Bought a brand new Prado GXL car in September 2018.

below is the complete detailed record on what happened from 18th Sep - 21st Dec.

I have always owned Toyota cars for the past 20 years.
and been a proud Toyota owner. But now the quality has been diminished once they have conquered the market.

First 2500 kilometres a ‘knock’ sound was heard while starting the engine.

Secondly, a transmission shudder sound while travelling at slow speed was heard and was advised to the dealership during the first service.

I was advised that the engine mount needed replacing and nothing was told about the transmission.

14/11/2018 - The Right engine mount was replaced with a revised mount.

15/11/2018 – While driving at slow speed I heard a loud thump sound from the transmission. I contacted the Toyota service and reported this incident and no action was taken.

05/12/18 – My wife was on her way to Brisbane, just after 6 Km from home she experienced a loud pop and the car was stalling with the caution lights on “Engine power reduced -contact dealer”. Due to the faulty engine mount and turbo valve issue the engine was lurching.

The car was then taken to the dealer that afternoon and I was told the turbo valve has popped off the engine. The engine bay was cleaned from grease and debris and the hose was repaired.

10/12/2018 – The Vehicle was booked in to go for a drive with a service tec to confirm the RH engine mount clunk and automatic transmission fault while accelerating from slower speeds. Following the drive, the technician confirmed the knock noise is still evident from the RH engine mount on start-up. It was also confirmed that the thump sound from the transmission was due to the drive line components.

11/12/2018 - The Service manager informed me over the phone that the transmission tail casing had been opened and that there was air build up which could be the cause for the problem.

A brand new car which has done less than 5000 Km should not have any thump sound or jerk coming out of the transmission or have a faulty engine mount.

Over the phone Service manager requested that I test drive a new Prado just to explain that the transmission sound was normal and is standard with every Prado variant.

12/12/2018 - While picking up the car following the check-up of the engine mount and transmission, It was also advised that the thump sound from the transmission is normal due to the amount of movement/backlash of driveline components, rear driveshaft slip joint and suspension components.

12/12/2018 - I was handed the keys for the new test car and took it for a drive. Later, did I realise that the new test car which I was driving had the same knock sound and the transmission noise was worse.

Long story short the new test drive car was a faulty car, which I believe was specifically given to convince me that the transmission sound & shudder was normal. Extreme disappointment.

17/12/2018 – The knock sound from the right mount is getting worse while starting and turning off the ignition. I can feel the engine shaking when I start the car.

Wolfroy , take a look in here - https://toyota-club.net/files/faq/15...engine_eng.htm At the bottom it explains how the active mounts work. Might be a wiring or ECU / valve problem and not the mount itself. Still , its up to them to diagnose and repair an issue with thier product . They are "factory trained technicians" charging the public $120 per hour for professional work you would think.

I have taken my Prado to Toyota and they said it is some sort of engine mount issue. Which was changed and I am still having the issue. Toyota is trying to avoid me so I am now going to lodge a report with fair trading.

I thought EGR was the biggest problem D4D's had. Sorry to hear all these stories!
D4D. How long will it last?

Quick update. I've sold my Prado and couldn't be happier. I've made a few questionable choices in life, buying a brand new Prado was one of them...

                  Hi,
I have Prado 150 2011 1KDFTV LHD. I had the same issue and finally found out that the noise comes from the fuel return line. Fixing pipes to chasis is faulty. I mean on idle speed the excessive fuel from common rail system returns to the fuel tank. The pipes are fixed inside the mudguard with plastic clamps. When engine is cold that means the return fuel and pipes also cold. Due to the gap between clamps and pipes you hear the rattle. After expension of pipes via warm fuel the rattling stops. Try to wrap the pipes with a soft material and check if you still have sound.
