  • Alpine Diesel Fuel and/or Additive

Anyone know anything about this topic? I have a full guts of regular diesel on board and am heading to the snow fields for a week. Ill get to Bright with half a tank I would guess, do I top up with Apline diesel or put additive in the fuel I have? All advice welcome. 2014 3.0L D4D.

Are you only doing day trips from below snowline or parking the vehicle in a resort for the week? If only day trips just top up with Alpine diesel otherwise I also add the additive, particularly at Hotham.
I use additive as 'Alpine diesel' may only be a winter mix or highland diesel.

It was much easier with the 90 series prado with its two completely separate tanks; during winter i would keep one tank with an Alpine mix or with additive added, and the other tank for day to day use with normal diesel

Thanks for the tip, topped up and Bright (1/2 a tank) and chucked in some additive as well. All good.

Keeping your tank full doesn't help. If temps are below minus 4 (rule of thumb) for a couple days the fuel freezes in the lines. (Not the tank). that is what creates the issue. NRMA up there usually just tow the car lower to let it thaw out.

It’s to limit the amount of condensation, not freezing the tank
