  • Prado fuel filter warning light

I have a 2010 Prado gxl 130000.. had the fuel filter warning light come on had it changed and light cleared but the light keeps coming back! Not short trips around town but when driving for around 30 minutes or more. I’ve changed filters twice since and even replaced the sensor with no luck. Multiple mechanics can’t figure out the problem. Googled for the last 6 months and can’t find anything.
    please help!

Cut the filter open and check its condition, if bad you might have an algie problem in your tank which is gunking up the new filters. Make sure both filters are changed also.

Is that easy enough to do at home or should I leave it to the mechanic?

Fuel filters are easy to change, there's many video tutorials

        Under bonnet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbKiuztLD7w

If you cut them open and they are newish, but black and gunked up then you might have algae build up in the tank or even water.

I'd also give it a double dose of Chemtech as a shock treatment, it has a biocide agent to kill algae https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/...tre/10386.html

Unlikely water to be there if the filter has been changed few times. Most likely either the senor is faulty or the fuel. Not much in between. OP could try to add a pre-filter to help narrow the issue. Prefilter with a transparent bowl would be the way to go!

Reading the post again, could a blockage in the fuel line cause the light to come up. OP says not on short trips, so is seems to be a fuel supply issue? Possible? Some one can tell if this can be the case or not?

            Cheers.

Interesting a mate of mine bought a 2016 Pardo. He started getting the same light coming on after driving for 50km. After several trips back to Toyota change the filter then the sensor turned out fuel pressure was low. New fuel pump was required, Lucky he had an extended warranty because I can't see a fuel pump being cheap.

So could be a fuel supply issue as I was thinking? Worth the investigation as this could lead to other issues I am thinking!
