Sports mode for non-Kakadu models

Hi mate, sorry I haven't checked the forum for a while.

Yes that photo is missing the loop that is required where you have shown. I just took pictures as I installed it and realized later the only photo I had wasn't complete.

As ptommo59 has said you need to check your circuit with a meter. my guess would be it open circuit at the ecm end. Check the pin (8) at G184 is fully seated, take G184 out and check that the pin on the ecm hasn't been bent.

Your ground at G303 is obviously working if you can select sport/eco.

Sorry I have been away on business and not had a chance to get back to this until yesterday. I unfortunately still could not get it to work. I reterminated a new pin on the G184 pin 8. I have continuity between pin 8 at G184 and the G303 connector, but no voltage. I have fairly sure that the new pin is not moving backwards in the G184 connector. I can manually switch between ECO and Sport by quicky earthing each of those circuits. I cant select normal mode by quicky earthing p[in13 on G303. I can move between ECO and Sport using the mode select buttons, but can't select normal mode.

I had a dig for some electrical diagrams for my 2021 Prado GXL and found these on the Toyota-tech.eu site. The screen shot below seems to indicate that SPCN is on pin 9. Do you agree that I am reading the drawing correctly?



I have not checked yet if PIN 9 is empty yet.

Good find, ok so it looks like they have changed the wiring slightly on the 21-on prado.

Pin 9 in the diagrams I have is for the second start function. Be interesting to see where the second start in on the later models.

Great pickup

I also had a look at the JUN 21+ OWDs and yes looks like they swapped a few connection points around..

The SPCN (red wire) switched from Pin 8 to Pin 9 (Pin 8 is now an earth point with White/with Black stripe wire)
The 2nd start SNWI (grey wire) moved from Pin 9 to pin 32.

As the other switch functions are working OK seems its a pretty simple fix but may be worth updating the Pinout table in the earlier main guide post to show the different year configs for others that want to do the mod and don't get this far down.

Hi! So I’m part of the GXL guy who bought the switch mode. And yes it’s not working… I’ve got the premium interior and it’s a 2022 model. However something I don’t understand. I have the connection and all the wires are good. So where is the issue?

Hi TomAUSSIE,

You will need to read Toopy's write up in posts #47 to #51 to understand what is involved in getting the switch to work on a GXL due to the wires not included in the harness between the G303 Shift Indicator Connector and the Engine/Trans ECU and Aircon Amp.
As discussed in posts #60 to #63 above there was an ECU pin number change from his 2018 GXL install made in Jun 21 so for the Normal switch to operate on your 2022 GXL requires a connection to pin 9 rather than the pin 8 in his table everything else is OK.

It all works now. It is Pin 9 on my Prado. Thanks for the help.

Sport Mode and a Steinbauer Chip puts a smile on the face. Just need to be careful.
