Hi folks - just attached my dyno results for my 2012 VX. Interesting results; blue line is with 2.75" Beaudesert exhaust recently fitted - full system incl. dump-pipe back. Then the red line is after plugging the Steinbauer back in (had the Steinbauer re-flashed because of the new exhaust.)

The KD will crack pistons irrespective of whether it’s chipped or dead stock.
Plenty of upset owners in the class action can testify to the fact.
Add to that there’s the well published report from Toyota (South Africa) which would be one of the most in depth investigations into the weak piston problem.
It’s clear that unlike diesels of long ago, some of these modern things have a limited life. Luck of the draw apparently.
So go for it, get the most out of it that you can.
Plan for the rebuild but in the meantime, enjoy a bit more power than the feeble stock trim effort.

No chip on the D4D engine is safe, Anyone offering that info is telling porkies. The engine is barely safe on its own base tune. Well known for injector issues and cracking pistons. Any extra power derived from them usually = Boom.. not too long after.
I see your "tuner" has also selected 2nd gear for the test to fudge the figures.. I imagine purely to give a higher reading on the figures.. Old Dyno trick to make the owner think it's a powerhouse.. I can wager if you took it straight to another dyno and had a power run performed it would be quite a different readout with a competent Dyno operator. Can I ask if it was a 2 or 4wd dyno?

I've had the Steinbauer on for about 7 years now I think. Damaged the exhaust so put a new Beaudesert system on. I put new injectors in at 100,000km. Catch can from 80,000k along with using these products. I guess it doesn't matter how clean the engine is, if the pistons are the weak link I might just unplug the Steinbauer.

just turn it down a bit
I thought the issue was chipped and big exhaust systems was the likely cause.
Ive had a steinbaur in my 120 now for over a year, stock exhause with the exception of that big muffler in the middle.
Ive turned my chip down a bit, not to push the engine.
I watch my EGT gauge more while towing and big hills. ry and keep the temps down. So what if I slow down while going up a big hill11/06 kdj120 gx wide body auto

About 150hp at the tyres, certainly not pushing it, plenty in rerserve.
Even though she only has 150,000 on the clock, think I would have gone for a set of squirters and set valve clearances so you have a nice base to start from.
Enjoy.
I note another dead stock KD has recently perished, in the 120 section.
Owners have to realise the bottom end is the weak point and budget for that.
Once rebuilt with quality forged pistons, you have the engine that Toyota should have supplied.
Stay with the 3.0L pre DPF design and you’ll have the best available, until a petrol option is re-introduced.
Sorry, just noticed you fave her new squirters at 100,000.
Think you’ve given it everything possible.
Again, enjoy.

I've had the Steinbauer for 7 years. It doesn't change boost or injector pressure, just changes timing and amount for approximately 30 seconds. From what I understand it actually only gives full extra power for a few seconds before slowly winding back. Useful for overtaking when towing, or heavy beach work.Steve
