  • Too noisy or is this OK

My new to me Prado 150 is noisy and sluggish until the turbo kicks in, I mean really sluggish and slow. In the turbo range it pulls along nicely if I put my foot down. It's initial throttle response is slow/delayed/weak for about nearly half throttle press, it's noisy and feels low on power until turbo time. My friends 2010 with more miles is more responsive is there anyway to perk it up or what could be wrong?

Do these sound normal? First recorded in a carport so the noise is amplified somewhat.

Noise recorded in car pedal almost half pressed
    much noiser

It's a 2012 done 325k with FSH at Toyota. Belt done at 300k don't think injectors have ever been done. Were checked at 230k and found to be in spec. I checked pickup and it's shiny and clear. No smoke on start up or under load.

How was injector readings performed? Did they provide printouts? Hot cold etc..

Doesn't sound too bad, but 300k is a long way on injectors. They wear regardless of readings.

      Bit of simple maths.

Let's say that your car has averaged 50km/h over those 300,000km (and 50km/h is being generous for a city car), that means that the engine has run for 6000hrs. If you assume average RPM is 1500 (again conservative) then 300,000km = injector firing 135,000,000 times. Even the best materials wear, and an injector is super fine tolerance parts moving super fast.

Then at 300k there are a whole bunch of other potential issues that could reduce performance. Have you had a look at the EGR, could very well be heavily blocked.

I'm not sure, just seen they were found to be in spec from service history. I'm keen to get a Techstream cable and test them.

I believe it's been done as I saw pictures but i'm not sure when. Can it clog up fairly quickly after a clean, say 30k km? I think i'll check as I believe it's not that difficult to have a look.

Please to hear it doesn't sound like a complete dog. There is no distinct rattle or knock really it's just overall very noisy!

To add it was mostly motorway miles so i'm assuming that's harder on the injectors?
