Getting a whistle from my 2014 Prado 150 Series (Diesel) under acceleration anything above 2000 RPM - Toyota say I require a New Turbo ... $4k ... not happy - has been serviced, not a lot of off road and really looked after it - full service history and now in a Out of Warranty Discussion with Toyota - anyone got any advice ? Consumer law stats the Product must be Durable - you cant say replacing at 114k kms Turbo reflects durability ...

After pushing Toyota I got 25% of parts only - which I feel is very poor - clearly they do not stand by their product and reflects poorly on durability ... so much for upgrading to a 200 series this year : will not happen - have been loyal to the brand 3 x Prado's over 20 years - they do not give a crap - really poor experience - Turbo specialist tomorrow will see what comes out of that - will not be buying another Toyota that's for sure ..Last edited by Patto.Vic.Au; 28-01-2021, 01:02 PM.

Guess you have to look at it, its a 6-7 year old car and at least 3-4 years (and over 14000kms) out of warranty. Personally I think them offering 25% is a fairly good gesture as on paper they don't have to offer anything in reality.
What has your second opinion said?

Could be lack of oil, i.e. blocked pick up - has this been checked when servicing? About that age injector seats can go causing blocked pickup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXeDhCKAfv0
A new turbo will end up the same if this is the cause.

thanks for that Piggy & Lawesb - 2nd opinion agrees turbo shaft issue and replacement required but quoted 10hours effort to replace!!! what sort of drugs are they on? - Lawesb :will ping Service to ensure Pickup is inspected - thanks for heads up...
Interestingly have been quoted Garrett reconditioned Genuine Toyota Turbo for the Prado which I thought was a good option at $1,750 and was stated all original parts - funny thing Garrett does not rebuild this particular Turbo and genuine new Toyota parts are not available from IHI which is the company that makes the parts - was quoted this a couple of times with this offer - spoken to Garrett direct and they confirmed this is bulls**t - looks like their legal team will be investigating ... As for Toyota's pricing, have quoted $3,350 (Parts only - not including 25% discount) where I can purchase from Denco $2,750 new - of course Toyota can only supply from their own supply chain ... what a minefield out there - I don't think I have any other option ... off to Toyota I go .. appreciate your insight & comments
