The vehicle has been checked and I am up for a new short engine and new injectors. I have now been told that failure of the 3L engine is not uncommon. I am now stuck in Mount Isa waiting for a new engine, repair cost on the high side of $16k. Apparently number 4 injector failed and blew a hole in the piston. I had noted an increase in fuel consumption lately but put that down to the environment. I do not work the car hard, the van is not overloaded and we generally travel at ~90km/h. This is my second Prado, I had over 300k on the Grande and never had any trouble. Does anyone know if this failure can be considered "not fit for purpose" so I can have a go at recouping some of the cost.
I’m surprised she made it any further as there’s plenty more hills to go.
Have also been stuck in Mount Isa waiting for parts from Townsville.
