  • New injectors - strange values

    Hi

    Finally bit the bullet and paid Toyota a bunch of money to put brand new Denso injectors in my 2010 Diesel Prado.

    Vehicle runs fine but when I got home I hooked the Techstream up and I found some values actually worse than before...

    At full operating temp with all accessories off I am seeing..

    Calculated load has gone from 15-16% to 18%

    This has driven the injection volume up from 7.5 to 9.

    Injector feedback values all awesome.

    Am I overthinking this? Should I go back to Toyota? Can anything else cause a high calculated load like this during injector change?

      Yes I am thinking the same thing. It runs and sounds great which has me confused thinking it might be ok but the readings are def strange. I watched them from cold today and the calc load and inj volume actually got down to 15% and 8.5 before riding back up to 9.5 and 18% once at operating temp. I don't get it. Confirmed injector codes are correct. I am wondering if maybe a pilot learn was not done. I might do one tomorrow and see if anything changes.

        Hi kizbot, I am interested to hear how this pans out.

        I am pretty sure I'll be getting mine done shortly (206,000km on a 2011 GXL) as they haven't been done yet and I need a retune after a fitting a high flow, upgraded bearing turbo and 3in exhaust. Have been told by the tuning house that they won't touch it until injectors are replaced or a test report gives them a completely clean bill of health. Given the age, replacement is probably the go. Happy to hear comments on that.

        Not real keen on taking it to Toyota as the tales of woe after dealer work are just too offputting to me - particularly the unpredictable nature of them.....meaning that sometimes it seems like the simplest jobs are stuffed up (the unsupervised apprentice factor??). So I'm also interested in comments from others that have had theirs done elsewhere so I can get a couple of suggestions on trustworthy workshops. I am in the Chermside area of Brisbane.

          Called Toyota today and spoke to the head tech who basically said they don't take calculated load or total injection volume into account at idle as there are too many variables that can give different readings. Basically said as long as it's running well and fuel usage is ok and individual values are good then there is nothing to worry about. I could take it to an independent place but since it runs good and is quiet and indv values look good I am going to say it's fine. Worst case, there may be a small leak when they took the system apart that only appears when temps get high but not getting any smoke or rough running etc. I'll see how fuel economy goes over the next few weeks.

          p.s I was going to use KM diesel at Brendale but they wouldn't check the valve clearences while doing the job as they don't do mechanical work so opted for Toyota so I didn't have to have the valve cover pulled off again to check them.

          if I did it again, I would pay KM diesel to do the job.
