  • Removing diesel from tank.

I drive a 2014 GXL 3.0 liter and was asked by a friend how I would go about filling a jerry from the tank if I needed to share fuel with someone when out on a long trip. I thought this is a good question as I know you cannot just siphon fuel from the tank. Has anyone ever had to do this and if so how?

Spare bit of hose on fuel filter in engine bay, let the pump do the work. You do however then have to purge air from the system. Short story is make sure your jerry can is full before you leave. Makes no sense to carry empty Jerry cans. It would be very rare nowadays to have to share fuel in similar circumstances unless some bad planning or fuel loss was occurring some other way.

Thanks Piggy. I suppose as this post has only had one reply says it all. It is almost impossible to easily get fuel from a Prado except in dire circumstances which means getting air into the system. No, I don't carry empty jerries but have been in a convoy which has come across a vehicle out of diesel. One of the convoy vehicles was an old Landy from which we were able to siphon enough fuel to get the other vehicle to a nearby town. Hence the reason for my question. (With the size of the Prado tanks I have never had to carry fuel.)
