  • EGR delete benefit

I recently had my Prado in at the dealership for some work. They don't see it very often because it's out of warranty.

When I picked it up the mechanic asked if I'd just done an oil change because the oil was so clean. He didn't believe me when I told him that I'd done 5000km since the last oil change. Key changes on my engine, EGR delete and oil catch can. I've been genuinely surprised by the impact.

EGR delete as in physically removing and blocking off the EGR system completely? Wouldn't the ECM have to be flashed to tell the computer to ignore the sensor readings?

I had the ECM flashed to delete the EGR (no power upgrade) a few years ago.

Yes, my EGR was turned off years ago when the ecu was reflashed.
Oil stays like new until a bit over 5000k. From then on it darkens but is still very clean.
Usual changes are 7500 max, 5W30 or 40 full synthetic.
Only downside to EGR turn off is the odd hiccup with the auto trany. computer. Will hang unlocked converter sometimes, especially noticeable if starting off downhill so there’s not much accelerator input.
Not as bad as some whose cars will not select top gear until it’s stopped and restarted!

Interesting. I had mine turned off until I got it back from Toyota for some work. Now EGR is working again. EGR position used to always read 0%. Now I see a reading that varies. Confirming your EGR POS says 0% with delete?

I have no way to read that info.
            Car never goes near Toyota.

No worries. Can see data with TS software. I meant EGR target position at 0% with delete. Krypto have you checked this value?

Likely Toyota have turned it back on.. They can see it at 0%, it's how they know an EGR delete is in place.

Yeah. Now I might be paying to get it switched off again. I am weary of (whoever I get to do it) loading an old base map instead of adjusting the parameters that need to be adjusted in order to disable the EGR. Basically, I only want the EGR switched off and no other changes made to the vehicle. I reckon the tuners likely just run a map for all vehicles in that year that have the changes already embedded. This means, if Toyota do an update to the ECM, having it flashed for a EGR delete could flash the ECM back to an older version. To be honest, I am just speculating at this point, but will have a chat to a tuner and ask the question. Probably overthinking it as usual but would be nice to have the latest map + EGR off.

I haven't checked recently. I'll have a look because it has been at the dealer. But oil suggests that it disabled.

Cool mate. Should be EGR target position 0 and EGR actual position 0.

Gday kizbot, you may want to give this a go. You will still need the plate in place, but will take care of your reflashing issue. Total plug and play.
