I took my 2018 VX in for a service today at the dealership. I was surprised when they said they were going to replace the DPF under warranty with the latest variant. Has anyone else had this? Is there a service bulletin I didn't know about?

Yep. My 2016 was done. Comes with a 10 year warranty. Go for it..I suspect it may be related to the class action which is bubbling away in the background. -
I find it interesting that they had already given an extended 10-year warranty on the DPF and I have never had any issues with it. I thought they would have just waited until it got close to failing before replacing it. What I read from this is that they know they are going to fail and therefore just replace them. Does anybody know what changed in the latest variant? Also, I am concerned that my custom mode is gone notes say they reflashed the ECU.Comment

Not sure what is different but the housing of the 5th injector looks to be different. Mine too was reflashed when they changed the DPF. Custom mode 1 [ the flashing light] still works and they still failed to get custom mode 2 [the switch ] to work. Any of the DPF up to about 2020 are apparently prone to failure and the replacements are the latest design. They replace them if you ask or if you are having problems like white smoke or erratic operation eg. mine went from 6% to 48% in about 20 km then back down again before finally getting to 100% around the 250 km mark. get it done. no cost to you.Comment

My opinion is that all of the earlier DPFs will have problems at some point due to their design and materials. When my DPF system went off the deep end (ending in the Prado going into "limp mode"), the DPF, "5th" injector and injector housing were replaced as well as a firmware upgrade. When I queried the dealer's service manager what was changed and why, I was told that the reason for my Prado's failure was that the ("5th") injector had failed due the the inability of the old style housing and injector to stay clean. The new housing allows the exhaust gasses to flow differently and keep the injector clean. The DPF was replaced with a new design which had a different internal coating that allows better burning of the soot that collects. The system has worked faultlessly since the DPF replacement in November 2020: soot accumulation varies on how hard the engine is working (I do a lot of towing) but, once the level reaches 100%, a burn occurs. If the burn is interrupted by me stopping (eg when I get to work or home), it picks up where it left off once the exhaust and DPF reach the correct operating temperature.Originally posted by angyp View PostComment

Could someone help me with the part numbers for the 5th injector upgrade KIT? I am in SPAIN, and there is no free upgrade and 10 yr warranty unfortunately. I want to but the parts myself from Japan and install them, but I want to know what the part numbers are for the upgrade, so I can compare to the original part numbers. The TSB number is Technical service bulletin EG-00350T-TME. Thank you!Comment
