  • Main fuel filter change 2016 2.8 TD Prado

    Hi to all.

I need to do a main fuel filter change on my 2016 2.8 TD Prado. Despite doing a search of posts, I am still unsure of the best way to do the change.

I think, remove the old & refit the new & have it filled with fuel. Loosen the bleeder screw & pump the primer to clear air from the filter. ???

My past 4wd, a 2001 TD Jackeroo, was less technical & easy to work on, so the Prado is a learning experience. ???

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi Russell, There a quite a few videos on Youtube that may be useful.

This is only one but others should pop up in the similar video area if this isn't detailed enough for your needs.

How to replace main fuel filter in a prado 150 series. - YouTube

If your servicing yourself and if the vehicle is fitted with a sub tank don't forget to regularly replace the rear fuel transfer filter as well.

      Hi ptommo59.

Thanks for the links, I will have a look at them soon & do the work.

I am familiar with the sub tank filter & that is also on the list for replacement.

I might do it myself but will get a price from Toyota to see their price. ???

      Regards, Russell .........

        Hi ptommo59

I have watched the videos & the main filter is on an earlier model than mine & has 2 hoses (1 in & 1 out) where mine has 4. 2 larger & 2 smaller.

The smaller ones seem like they might be bypass or return hose. The larger ones from the tank & to the fuel pump ???

I will have a closer inspection & unbolt the filter to check for flow arrows & check where the hoses come from / go to ???

        Thanks again. Regards, Russell .........

The post on the possible blocked fuel tank breather was also interesting & worth checking.

This ones for a 2016 so should be same as yours (the only things he doesn't do that I would normally is lubricate the o-rings and seals with a smear of clean diesel and pre-fill the filter before installation so you don't need to spend as much effort priming the system (just need to be careful to not tip to one side during installation) Fuel filter replacement in 2016 Prado 2.8 L (Diesel) - YouTube
If your fuel filter warning light/message stays on there is plenty of info and videos on the simple process to reset it.

            Hi ptommo59.

Thanks again, I will watch the video & get it changed very soon.

It is great to get knowledge from experienced owners who work on their vehicles.

I used the Australian 4wd forum & people like you to keep my Jackaroo going well for 20 years.

All the best. Regards, Russell ............
