So I've developed an oil leak at 240000Km and tomorrows job is to degrease it fully to try and trace the origin. There is a black plastic plug fastened with a 10mm bolt just below the starter motor that seems to be the highest point of the leak right now. Does anyone have any ideas what the plug is or where the leak may be originating from?

Hard to tell from the picture but if its a 1KD there is a plug on the rear of the block that quite often leaks and gets brittle so breaks pretty easily when being removed. To replace it and the O-Ring you need these two parts
P/No Plug Hole 1144467020 & O-Ring 9674324014
If you look up the part numbers a few online parts catalogue entries should show what it looks like and where it is positioned.

Yep she's a 1KD alright. I thoroughly cleaned the area and blow dried it, then after a quick drive it definitely looks like the plastic plug is the culprit as it's already weeping from there. Thanks for your response ptommo59, much appreciated, now just to source the parts.

Finally replaced the plug & O ring today. The plug is looking very second hand, and the O ring is really flat so no wonder it was leaking. Why Toyota didn't produce the plug using steel is beyond me but at least it's fixed now. Thanks again ptommo59Comment
