  • EGR valve. possible blanking plate.

    Hi to all.

I am in the process of fitting an Air on Board EGR blanking module & in the process of finding the required plugs I have found the EGR valve itself.

it's not usually visible under the plastic cover. In two places on the valve there looks to be a thin metal plate between what looks to be the gaskets.

They don't follow the curve of the body of the valve as the gaskets do & run straight across a recess between the securing bolts.

Sorry for the poor explanation, I will try to get a photo tomorrow & post it.

    The vehicle is a 2016 2.8 diesel with about 140,000 km's & I am the second owner.

I don't want to continue with the blanking module if there is a blanking plate already in place.

    Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

It could be a blanking plate fitted by the previous owner. If it is a blanking plate it should have a small hole (10mm or so from memory), it should not completely block the EGR just reduce flow.
I believe the later models (2020 on) would throw fault codes when a plate was fitted.

I fitted the recommended size blanking plate on my 2015 2.8 Prado soon after I bought it. It did throw up the occasional fault code so I then fitted the Air on Board module. Haven't had a code since. The instructions say to remove the blanking plate but I didn't bother as its a PITA to access and I didn't anyway see the need as the EGR valve is disabled anyway.

        Hi Leethal & kevoc.

Sorry for my late replys. I did take photos but didn't get around to posting them. ???

I just went ahead & fitted the Air on Board blanking module & all is working well.

Life has been busy since then with home renos & other things getting in the way of doing what we would rather be doing. ???

I'm planning to purchase & fit a Redback exhaust before the end of the year & then get the ECM re mapped for a mild boost in power.

Then hopefully a trip to Tassie in Feb for about $ weeks. Friends are about to move there to live for 12 months or .................

All gthe best for now. Regards, Russell ..............
