Redback exhaust to 2.8 diesel Prado (08/2015 onwards)

Hi to all.

Has anyone fitted a Redback exhaust to 2.8 diesel (08/2015 onwards) I was supplied one through a distributor in Adelaide & when I tried to fit it, the engine pipe attaching to the DPF

seemed to be about 3 " short from the first bend to the flange where it bolts to the DPF, compared to the original exhaust. It was difficult to bolt up & the ball flange did not meet evenly.

I had to refit the original exhaust.

The distributor is looking into it for me, but I was wonder if anyone else has had a similar problem.

Hi to all,

My saga with the Redback exhaust has been resolved. What was a bit confusing with different part numbers & what looked like a short engine pipe compared to the original system

was all irrelevant & the system was fitted well by the supplier, a bit easier on a hoist than crawling under the car on jack stands/blocks.

The vehicle seems to breath more freely already already with the ECU being remapped in a few days time. I'm looking forward to the results.

Hi to The White Beast. (From another white beast)

Sorry for the delay in posting. Life has been busy & no time for the internet. We spent all of Feb cruising Tassie earlier this year.

With the new exhaust fitted I had the ECU remapped at Llordan Diesel, at Lonsdale SA. The EGR was also deleted in the process adding to cleaner running with the catch can already fitted.

The remap boosted the output from 130 kw to 150 kw & 450 Nm to 500 Nm. Nothing crazy just up to 2023 Prado specs & keeping everything reliable.

Mine is a manual & I was always needing to drop a gear to accelerate quickly, but the upgrade has improved this without the need to downshift. Economy has also improved.

I'm interested to chat with other Prado owners re some mods I am keen to try. 1. Change the existing auxiliary fuel pump & filter to a more standard system where fuel from the 2nd tank is only

transferred when required. My pump needs replacing soon & Toyota are quoting $600 to $700 for the pump alone.!! Also I had heard that the larger aux tank from a 120 might fit into a 150 series.

That's all for now as we are in the process of packing for an East Coast trip from Nowra up the coast to K'Gari/Fraser Is. for a week with my 4wd Club. We have 4 weeks away with some exploring

on the way back to Adelaide, possibly the Darling River run. Lots to explore & not enough time. ?????

Jack, spend a few minutes online, and you will find fuel transfer pumps for a lot less than what Toyota is quoting you, aliexpress have genuine for $101, and Fred auto parts are <$300 (genuine parts), or auto supply parts are $195 (for APS brand), just three examples from a quick search (you got me worried, as mine will need replacing at some point).

Thanks for the info on the fuel transfer pump. At $100 - $200 a very cost effective option. Toyota prices were $678 for the complete unit inc sender, or $481 pump only.

My last vehicle just had a pump & gauge for the aux tank on a separate switch so you transferred fuel as required.

The 150's venturi pump that is constantly running/filtering seems very complicated & costly. However lots of work required to do the swap over.

What an exciting time and glad to hear about your trip from Nowra to Fraser! I live about 3 hours from Fraser Island but spent a lot of time down Nowra, Huskisson, Batemans Bay in my youth!

I'm about to get mine tuned finally at Evolution Tuning but am in two minds about the exhaust but I think you've convinced me as I'm a big fan of redback exhausts and have had them on my 120 and 100 series cruiser.

Hi Ben.

Just home from our trip last Sunday & I have only looked at P.Point now & seen your response. Our trip up the East Coast was great, family visits at Nowra, a cruise on the

Hawkesbury River north of Sydney, exploring Barrington Tops N.P. & staying at nice small towns in the central highlands of NSW. A few days at Tweed Heads then on to

K'Gari/Fraser Is. for the week. We traveled all the way to the Lighthouse on the northern tip of the island + the main attractions in the inland areas with base camps at Dilli Village

& Waddy Point. Back on the mainland a few days with a friend near Maleny then south west on the way home. The Darling River Rd. was closed due to rain but we did some other exploring

to make up for it at Gundabooka N.P. south west of Bourke. Home now & a few days of unpacking & car cleaning, sand gets in every where. Must start planning for the next trip.

Had I known at the time I would have contacted you, we even visited our daughter-in-law's father who lives at West Woombye.

Al the best for now, I'm sure you will enjoy your 4wd mods.
