Cartridge style oil filter

Heard a little ditty today that may or may not be true.

Apparently the oil filter in the diesel version of the 150 has a replacable cartridge inside the housing. This has been done to reduce disposal costs. No idea if this will be the same for the petrol model or even if the filters are backwards compatible with exsisting powerplants.

It is true for all new Toyota's & almost all cars after 2010.

Talk about looking at the past to move forward...... all cars used to have cartridge filters before the advent of spin on filters :!:

Wont be long till someone brings out a spin-on oil filter kit. All the pom 60's cars I've owned I have fitted a spin-on filter kit of some sort. Destroyed an engine in an Austin Healey once with a leaking cartridge seal (I was young and foolish).

Last time I saw them was on Dads 1974 corolla and several times I had to correct huge oil leaks due to the gasket (which was a separate component and easily misplaced) getting twisted during installation. The spin-on filters were a revolution There are going to be engines destroyed if the cartridge system doesn't work flawlessy. If this is needed to save the environment then baked beans cans will be next :twisted:

So is the 150 series D4D engine different to the 120 series D4D engine in that it now uses a filter element instead of a spin on filter cartridge? Or has the filter element been used in the 120 series as well, i.e. no change in filters.... :?

Most new cars are moving back to cartridge filters, especially diesels, and some even come with plastic covers to insert them so you dont touch them, as they have a special chemical covering you cant disturb during installation.

I bet they are alot dearer than the spin on units too :wink:

I had a quick look under the bonnet at a diesel in the pd area a few days ago & i am positive it still had a spin on in the same spot as the 120's

I will have a decent look tomorrow

Had a look today & the petrol has a new type cartridge type filter but the diesel still uses the 90915 YZZD2 spin on

Topic moved to here from diesel section. Only the petrol motor has a catridge style filter (at this stage :wink: )
