  • First Fuel Figures

I have just done my first refuel after initial fill up at purchase. This is a mix of 500km Highway, 350km Town Trips, 110km Beach and about 30 mins at idle during battery fitment and testing over 3 or 4 days.

    Total: 960km
Driving Style: Enjoying the power and test drive so figures will be high. (A/C on)
    Fuel used: ULP 10% ethanol
    Reserve Light: On at 950km.
    Total for refuel: 129L

The fuel gauge drops in one steady motion and does not seem to drop slower or faster in any part of the 960km.

The reserve light 'orange fuel symbol' came on and stayed on with approx 32L left in the tank.

    Regards

Good stuff Derek, have you seen the light and traded the 100 series? based on how it looked I'll be keeping a keen eye on the mods you do to the new 150!

I decided to take up the 50% new vehicle tax offer but thought the 200 series was too big for what I needed, I am making a list of things to do to it at the moment. 2 inch lift, tyres, drawers, snorkel, UHF, HIDs, Winch and Bull bar. Regards Derek.

          Hi Folks

Test driving a V6 150 in Brisvegas today (bought one as well) and had a look at the trip computer for avge usage, it had a quarter showing on the guage, 750k on the tripmeter and avge fuel of 12.5lts/100k. Seems pretty good for a demo car as i certainly put it to the test as I'm sure others would.

            Re: First Fuel Figures

My new V6 GXL is now ready for it's 1,000km service.

So fuel figures for the first fill:

            Overall 12.79L/100km
            104 L refill after doing 817 km.
Driving was mixed city, country, highway and dirt with some low-range. Nothing too strenuous though as it was in the break-in period.

After refill on the highway home (i.e. highway only driving, with a small mountain crossing) - 10.6L/100km.

Right now, since I've had a couple of days of city circuit, she's up to 12.3.

                Hi guys,

Just picked my car up over the weekend. Had to drive to echuca to pick it up so took our 05 xr6 up to pick it up. I got 9.7l/100 in the xr6 on the way up and back, and the gxl prado I got 11.3l/100km which i was rapt in. drove around sunday towing small trailer(600kgs gross) and my fuel ecomony is sitting at 12.8l/100km, it has 400km on the clock and I could not be happier with ecomony. The car is awesome also.

                Regards Troy

                  Re: First Fuel Figures

Fuel light came on this morning.

                  Range said 68km ?

Gauge showed about 2mm off the empty line.

When I filled up it took 127.95L, so that makes a 20L reserve and the 68km would be more like 120km but pretty close.

                    Re: First Fuel Figures

                    Hi guys,

11.5 combined ADR - Toyota are kidding right?

My wife drives from Brisbane to the Gold Coast and back everyday - therefore we do majority highway kms. After the last refill, the car has been going through this routine and is averaging 12.2 l/100. Being new, we've also been babying it too.

In fairness though, based on our experiences with our previous car, we need to give this car a little more time. Our X-Trail started out above ADR. After the 10,000 service and therefore 1st oil change, our fuel economy started coming in under the ADR - ADR 9.5 l/100 and returning 8.9 l/100. It remained this way until about 60,000kms when it climbed and sat at about 9.3 l/100.

On a side note though, would a loose exhaust pipe increase fuel consumption (back pressure wouldn't be as good i imagine)? Followed my wife home last weekend and noticed the exhaust swaying. Got under the car and the rubber hadn't been attached to the hangers! obviously missed that one at the factory.

Also, I have found the trip computer to be very accurate. At one refuel I had done 975 kms and the car took 121L - my calcs = 12.4 l/100, car calcs = 12.4 l/100. I also like the fact that the car says it's empty with about 20-30L left in the tank - less chance of running out.

                      First Fuel Figures

Still only 1/4 of the way through my first tank but average on the computer is 16l/100km!

Mind you, I only drive 6 km to and from work each day so the car is pretty much cold the whole time. Hopefully a longer trip this weekend will bring the average down a bit.

                        Hi

Bear in mind that lts/kms is dependant on the car moving, our car is used by my wife to drive 4kms to work, if the car is sitting in a traffic snarl then fuel is used and no kms are done, therefore the ratio is higher. Before I put the 2nd battery in I ran the car daily at idle for a couple of hours to keep the battery charged when camping, fuel consumption showed as 18lts/100kms at the end of trip.

I have had other diesel Prado owners look at the trip computer on our 150 and comment that with the extra service costs and fuel costs, plus the fact of having to fill up at the dirty diesel bowser, they question the difference between diesel and petrol.

                        Regards, Richo.

Yeah that's right. I'm at the tragic lights for probably 4 of the 10 minutes it takes to get to work. I just love the petrol coming from my diesel Pajero. So quiet and smooth.

                            Re: First Fuel Figures

Some actual info as per my 2010 Prado VX 4.0 petrol I recently took the Prado from Johannesburg in South Africa to Sossusvlei in Namibia, Swakopmund, Etosha, Windhoek and back though Kang in Botswana (6,500km). I towed a HEAVY Bushman Tracker I offroad trailer and travelled at speeds of 120km/h on tar and 90-100km/h on gravel where conditions permitted.

Average consumption while towing the trailer was around 18L/100km - it was loaded and had 2 adults and two infants onboard.

When travelling without the trailer (two adults and two infants) fuel consumption at different speeds (only where maintained for an hour or longer at a fairly constant speed) were as follows:

                            120km/h - 13.8L/100km
                            80km/h - 9.0L/100km
60km/h - 6.8L/100km!!! - if only I could stay awake at these speeds!!

I always knew of the benefits of travelling at lower speeds but the large difference came as quite a surprise.

Hope this helps any prospective buyers and sets the record straight on the manufacturer's fuel consumption claims.

                              hey guys,

brissie to dubbo 12.6 (Newell hwy)

dubbo to brissie 12.3 (New England hwy) with Cruise Control

nothing like the 11.5, but pretty good for a big petrol car.
