GXL Dusk sensor

I'm eagerly waiting to pick up my new 150 series GXL on Monday. In the mean time I have been reading the spec sheet on Toyota's web page and says that dusk sensors are not standard in GXL's. I'm assuming a dusk sensor is a sensor that turns your head lights on automatically on dusk? Surely that mustn't be correct? My crappy old camry has that feature on it and nearly every car does these days. I find it hard to believe a $70,000 car does not come standard with this. Can somebody please set me straight?

your right it doesnt have it....

as someone who drives 50k every year i run everywhere with my lights on ... they auto turn off when the car is locked so its not an issue... maybe get a few more bug splatters but if thats the worst thing

And there are a tonne of other features that don't come standard. If everything that you could possibly want (ie realy tyres, real bull bar and not some Dame Enda garbage, HID driving lights, lockers, 2-4" lift, dual battery with rear socket fittout, upgraded inverter and wiring to actually be more usable than for a mobile phone, snorkle, uhf, hf, real off road mapping GPS, breathers, onboard compressor, centre console fridge, sensor to turn on your lights for you, etc...) came as standard would you be prepared to pay $90k?

But the majority of the people who buy these sorts of vehicles to be used as a big family car that might do a few long distance bitumen trips would not. Market share is what dictates what you get in the vehicle models.

I agree with Barry..
If the Dusk sensor is an "Option" on the GXL
Which comes standard in new Camrys (At half the price)
They might as well make the Aircon an option as well so they can sell you Air-conditioning !!!

I would have thought that on a 4WD that another electrical circuit that could cause you problems in the bush is the last thing you would want, I personally would consider it a bonus to not have it. My 2009 120 doesnt have it 8) Bonus!

I was never complaining. In fact if you had bothered to read any of the above properly then you will notice I'm just responding to a post.

I also really donb't get your comment about replacing the 4" lift. Are you suggesting putting in an 8" lift as thet would be just stupid. I've been in a vehicle (Petrol 100 series) with a 6" lift and that was uncomfortable.

Some drivers must be lazy if they cannot turn on the headlights themselves!

On country trips, I drive with the headlights ON all the time, including day time, as a safety feature, and NO, it does not wear out decent headlight globes.

Hey the air conditioning used to be an option in the 90 series. How's some of the new German stuff, you have a heart attack and the vehicle drives you to the hospital. You don't see the car in front of you so it applies the brakes for you, etc.. Imagine when that stuffs up in the Australian bush? I will give it a go! You have a heart attack going across the Plenty Highway, instead of turning left the vehicle turns right on the Stuart Highway. You think to yourself, oh well it must be taking me to Tenant Creek so you let the vehicle go because you are just happy to still be alive. The vehicle passes straight through Tenant Creek and heads for the Devil Marbles thinking that the land mass is a hospital. You arrive there just on sunset and you think, oh well nice place to die, then the vehicle thinks that one of the boulders, as you are going into the park is a stationery vehicle so it jamms on the brakes. You go straight through the front windscreen, oxygen mask and all onto the other side of the Stuart Highway. As you are lying there on the road, dying thinking well this is not a bad death, a road train doesn't see you and squashes you like a Cane Toad (pancake) but only bigger. The moral of the story is do we need all this stuff anyway, I mean really?

Folks

I drive 50'000 work k's a year plus 30'000 recreational k's per year and have adpoted the practise of driving with my headlights on at all times.

An interesting point I inherited a basic 2006 Camry as a company car, which has been replaced by a new Ford Falcon G6 E (top of the Falcon line), the Camry has a feature that when you turn the car off the lights go out and when you turn it on again they go to the last setting as does the Prado.

The Falcon has dusk sensors that I don't use as I drive with lights on, but really annoys me as when I turn the car off it beeps but doesn't turn the lights out, if you want every feature in a car then stick your hand in your pocket, ever seen the accessories list for a BMW or Mercedes, don't expect to walk out of the dealer without spending at least $10'000.00 for what other companies (Toyota and Ford) have as standard.

Different horses for different courses, I suppose.

They are a pain the ass on our VX, I turn them to on instead of auto as every time you drive under a bridge, tree etc they turn on and then off... Then the dick in front of you thinks you are flashing him so he hits the brakes. Toyota have adjusted them twice now, still made no difference. Take my advice and use the on switch, when your cars turns on they go on and when you turn it off they are off, easy as.
