I bolted in a square wooden frame with a false floor on top. I store things like a spade, air compressor, tool box, tow strap, tow ball on its spigot and a couple of pieces of hardwood to get a firm base for jacking up the car or camper trailer.
Having said all that, if I was doing it again, I'd look at putting drawers for the storage. It's a bugger to get into the storage area after we've loaded a heap of other cr*p into the back!

Like GeeWhizz, I fitted a false plywood floor using some thin plating and suitable bolts to hold the floor into original seat mountings and seatbelt mounts. Also, obtained some extra tie down fittings from a wrecker to bolt into some other bolt holes that were present. Some carpet over the plywood too. No storage system as trying to keep weight minimal for towing.
Maybe I went overboard with carpet but I fitted carpet around the plastic fascade that covers the wheel arches and the cargo area so reduce scratches. I did paper templates to get the necessary carpet shape and then Velcro to hold carpet in place.
Seats are a "temporary" removal so they can refitted so the vehicle is meets compliance on resale or trade in.2019 Prado GXL 2.8L Diesel

Hi, has anyone successfully removed the single seat in the second (2nd/middle) row on a 2018 GXL. I’ve undone the bolts at the front and rear and it all look good until I see that the centre seat’s belt socket is attached to the single seat’s track. Still want the other two seats in the second row to be functional. Would be happy to leave the tracks in just not sure how to remove tracks from the seat. Any hints much appreciated.

Click on the search AIM botton, then "Vehcile" click LC150, "Catagory" intallation manual, then "Accessory Group" down to Towing Hitch wiring Kit, then just pick the top one. This shows the info on pulling out the rear seats. Pics of the drawers bolted in below
This is the one that I was looking for.
