  • Rear door rattles

Can ANYONE HELP?????Sick of the rattles that are coming from the rear door when on rough roads.I have fixed the telescopic door lock but there are major ones in the back door. Dealers are not interested in even looking at the problem.

Is the tool kit fitted to the door?

Yes,but have removed it & no change.THe dust deflector which houses the window wiper is not solid on the car ,which is the 2010 model ,have tried to insert padding to tighten that to no avail.Sounds terrible when you close the back door, everything shakes.

yeah i have the same problem after a long patch on some corrugated roads. Now even on the road it rattles something fierce.
i tried tightening up the bolt in the compartment next to the tools and that seemed to help a bit. But it still does it every now and then.
Gonna have to take the back panels off i think... dammit!

Yep, be tougher with the dealer. That's not good enough.

I have the same issue with my dealer, and their fix is to just lube the door hinges a bit more

Have you checked that your jack is wound up tight in its bracket, in its rear compartment?
I had a rattle in the rear after fitting my reversing camera and thought it was my fault for messing with the back door trims, but the jack had worked its way loose and all that was required was to tweak it up firm again. no more rattles.
Hope your fix is this simple.

                Cheers

It's not the number plate or the plastic number plate surrounds that the dealer puts on for free advertising?

My number plate plastic and rear bumper rattle...

Rear bumper seems the worst. It sounds like the door inside but get out and it's clear it's the clips on the bumper...

Had some loud rattling/creaking coming from the rear door on the weekend. Tried tightening the jack, padding the tool kit, etc to no avail.

Finally when I got home, I lubed the hinges on the rear door with a decent dose of WD40 and the latches (including the bits that the latches latch on to) with a spray of white lithium grease. Rattle disappeared completely. I would recommend trying this.

                      Cheers, Sam.

Haha, I thought I was the only one who did that. My better half thinks I'm crazy.

Nothing worse than rattles though. Especially from a Toyota!

                            Same same

Rattles started after return from the Cape (seems like the car has a 15K rear door threshold?) when I went for a drive locally the irritating sound only started off road (blacktop is still fine), did the WD40 number and noise ceased, until rear door dust infiltration off road again after about an hour. Good lube job fixes this issue, hinges, lock and guides. There has to be more of a 'sustainable' fix to exorcise this noise...

Surely it couldn't be associated with the outstanding design of the rear mudflaps?

This noise is enough to drive you crazy if not treated!
