hi this may sound stupid but when we first got our prado 150 i was forever hearing rattling coming from the back, after acouple weeks i realized in my car it wasnt the rear door but the luggege shelf that come in the kakadus. Not sure if they are standard in gx or vx. But i removed it and my problem is fixed!

At last ,have found a dealer who has taken the loose dust deflecter rattle seriously.Has been tightened up & I think better but havn,t been on a real bad road since. Still noisy in the back but think it,s those middle row seats. The dealer was our local one but I managed to get the boss to look at it this time!Have called at other dealerships while travelling but they coundn,t even be bothered looking.

          Valmai,

I too have noticed a rattle coming from the back door of my GXL and have pinpointed it down to the back door stopper (telescopic door lock). I would be interested to know how you fixed it. Many thanks.

          Regards,

          Mick.

I believe that I may have found the cause here..... I had this rattle, but have cleaned and in the process roughened up the rubber door seal on the back doorwhich had some serious shiny spots from dust being caught between the rubber and the paint work.
After the clean..... the noise has gone.

Had a squeeking noise fromt eh back fo the 120 series, quite frustrating. Removed jack and tools, even went tothe extent of removing bump stops on doors as I thought it was rubber and metal rubbing togather. After coming up empty, removed spare wheel from door and it disappeared, now I can move on (with wheel back on of course) but the squeek/rattle remains, atleast I know what it is!!!! Not sure if this is what you are experiencing in the 150!!

Thread dig: This rattle appeared last week and ive been putting up with it patiently till i got some time to look at it. So 2 hours today and removed the spare over 10 times. Its a resonating chatter like the rear tyre shaking, ive looked and looked but cant see whats doing it.
Will be giving the hinges a grease tomorrow and cleaning up all the fittings.... bloody annoying, its done 50k and this turned up out of the blue last week, hopefully one of the above solutions fix it, ive got a 1500km trip at easter and done want to hear this the whole way.

Just check the plastic inner guard panel on the passenger side rear wheel arch. The one that protects the fuel filler tubes. The retaining clips don't hold it well and it moves about, particularly with a bit of speed. A little sikaflex behind the clips stops it vibrating.

After a week or so with an annoying heavy rattle going over the slightest bump on the road and searching under seats, playing with the spare etc etc I found the OEM jack was a tad loose in its hidey hole. I hope it is something that simple Alt....
                    Cheers,

I had a rattle and squeak in rear after a month of outback corrugations and dust. After a couple of weeks trying everything I could and almost going nuts I cleaned the latching mechanism in the end of the door with copious amounts of WD40 followed by some light oil, all while working the handle. Its been perfect since.

                      Nat.

Alright, 8am start.... 4.5 hours later I drove over to Toyota to see if they had heard of the issue before as I was running out of time getting ready for the weekend away.... when I got there the noise had gone.

I removed the wheel, bracket, kaymar light bracket, took the back off the door, silicon sprayed the hinges and cleaned all the rubber door seal, fitted new rubber between all door bracket joints, noise was still there. It seemed to be coming from where the door meets the rear window and only squalked when the tyre was fitted.

I hosed out the whole inside of the rear door as it there was quite a lot of red dust inside it (gets in the drain holes) and also along the inside where the glass met the door frame as I thought that's where it was coming from, by the time I got to my Toyo garage (2km away) the noise had gone so I reckon it was bull dust between 2 surfaces.

Man this was really pissing me off, the noise was really loud and seemed to be resonating in the whole door like a violin and using the door as one giant speaker at max volume to give me the shitz.

All sorted now so it should be a Happy Easters 4WDing

                        Cheers

Had exactly the same issue. Fixed by putting dry lube on the door strikers.

I had a rattle in the rear after fitting my reversing camera and thought it was my fault for messing with the back door trims, but the jack had worked its way loose and all that was required was to tweak it up firm again. no more rattles.
Hope your fix is this simple.

I noticed an increase in rattles in the rear door and discovered that the jack was loose as well... easy fix.

I've noticed the posts re this issue and have gone down all the same rabbit holes as everyone else. I've removed the tools from the storage pockets, I've complained to the dealer to no avail. I also removed the spare tyre cover and back mounting plate. I realised I wasn't going to get Toyota to help and decided to have a go myself. First thing I learnt is that there is a rubber seat missing on most vehicles. Small round nipple thing at the top of the door. Insisted that the dealer fit one and it helped a lot, probably 50% reduction. Then I noticed most of the rattles come from the plastic hood over the rear wiper. This whole plastic monstrosity creaks and rattles. There is a horizontal plastic cover plate to the right of the wiper (RH drive models) that is the cause of most of the noise. I inserted a few small blobs of silica jell. No more rattles! I also put a fine line of silica around the stop light as this also creaked and rattled.
                                Hope this helps
