  • Folding Rear seats

Is it easy to remove the folding rear seats that go into the floor. I hate the space that they take up. I understand that there is a legal aspect to it but has anyone ever had legal ramifications because they have taken their folding seats out??

Changing seat would only become an issue when you increase the numbers. May be an issue when you sell it though.

I will be getting in touch with the Qld Dept of Transport, as the latest RACQ mag says that removing the third row seats permanantly is a modification & has to go through the Dept of Transport.

RACQ say, if the seats are removed and you have drawers bolted in you don't have a leg to stand on, you will cop a fine.

Not to mention the fact that you're insurance company can wipe you for having an unapproved/plated mod.

I would say it is probably worth checking it out whatever state you are in.

          Cheers

Thanks, I don't think I can be bothered. Just put up with the lack of space. Every now and then I do need at least one of the extra seats. When I had a Patrol and before that, the x-track tarago, just unbolted the seats and slid in my cupboards/fridge etc.

Why are they making 4wds which such restricted load space and flexiblity - don't answer, I know - north shore taxis.

I have spoken with the Qld Dept of Tspt & they say that you definitely do need a mod plate & promptly gave me 3 phone numbers of qualified inspection stations close to me.
One of these guys said that the 3rd row seat belts have to be removed & the plate would cost $110.

I rang my insurance company & spoke with them & they didn't have a problem with the 3rd row seats out & insured the drawers on the spot.

As indicated in my previous post, that I would check it out & I have & I'm not going any further with this.

By the way, the drawers are from ORS & are made of aluminum, with 1/2 size cargo barrier & 35 Lt stainless steel water tank and they are brilliant!! Very happy.
