    I just had TJM bash plates installed and noticed that the transfer box is not covered. I've spoken to a fabrication guy who is prepared to make me up some armour for the transfer case. Is anyone else interested as I know Browns Davis does one but it retails at around $360.00.

    I don't know costs yet but I'm sure it won't be $360.00. Just have to get some time to get under the car and work out the best design for all underbody protection currently available. Once we get that done should have a price as we'll have to work out a minimum run cost and therefore a price.

    If you are interested send me a PM letting me know what you think it is worth to potentially save a $2000 bill.

      I think the brown davis $360 one is for the gear box, they made up a seperate cover for the transfer case, which I thought was about the $150 - $200 mark. They used my car for the design and fitting and I still ended up paying $125. there are photos on a separate thread but they are not to clear, will try and get some others just of the transfer case, it replaces the existing very thin plate bolted to the case. It is very strong and sturdy but I am sure your fabrication guy will be able to do it for less

        You'd think they would have just given you the bloody thing since you did them a favor.

          Yes, I was pretty peeved, especially as they used it to design the gearbox plate also.

          Don't think I will be buying a long range tank from them when the time comes

                  Yeh put the brown davies ones on mine after busting it think they the only ones that cover the transfer they didn't stay shiny for long

                      Spoke to Opposite Lock today regarding the BD underbody protection. Currently available is the F1 - front plate that some people have installed. OL sell it for $550. They also advised that in mid Feb there are two more plates being released;

                      T1 - Transmission guard as seen in the photos - $265

                      T2 - Transfer case guard also shown in the photos on this thread. - $365

                      I presume the reason for the T2 being more expensive than T1 is due to there being more folds and welds to create the armour. The T1 just is a flat piece with some folds.

                      Like I said I think $365 is overpriced and will be getting one fabricated, so far I have 5 interested people. Just looking at both the diesel and petrol to see if the same guard works for both. PM me if you are interested in either adding to your current protection or protecting this expensive vulnerable transfer.

                        Hi Brains,

                        Would the fabricator you are using look at making a whole set of bash plates for the 150 as I think we are paying a lot for the name of Brown Davis now days. I am currently in the process of looking at Bash Plates myslef to fit up to a ARB Bar.

                          amts, the forum member who designed some 120 bash plates. has recently picked up the prototype for the 150 series.

                          we are test fitting the prototype tomorrow.

                          these plates will fit up to the ARB bars.

                            Have to agree with QLD4505, $365 for the transfer case plate is robery in my mind, although I was not real happy about having to pay for BD to design the plate with my vehicle, I guess I should be grateful I only paid $125..

                              Is he doing plates for the transfer case? As it is a separate guard and I have seen how busy he has been I thought I would get something organised and made sooner rather than later.

                                We weren't going to as they are already covered by BD, TJM, ARB and Ironman as well as another company in Queensland (name evades me but something like EDF although theirs are similar price to BD)

                                TJM plates retail for around $500 including the front and transmission plates. Currently they do not have a transfer case guard.

                                ARB are about to release theirs soon and are also around the $500 mark or a bit less. From what I understand that includes the front and transmission guards. I did hear that they had a transfer guard but it was just a rectangle piece of plate and not boxed like the BD.

                                Ironman are around the $400 and have 2 plates, one for the front and one for transmission.

                                From what I have seen most guards stop prior to the transfer case hence my interest in making something to protect the transfer case and the plastic box attached. Members have damaged these with a repair bill of $2000. So for me I would be prepared to buy one but think that it could be done cheaper and better than the one available for $365.
