I have had two mobile $210. services, (by Toyota) I have my own lift, oil trap. The guy always asks if there is anything a bother.
Now have the tailshaft clunk at 22K, maybe I should phone them?

But I then told them my drive belt needed replacing, my car wont start first time everytime, my engine coolant is low and my CV rubbers are split. They then said that they cant give me a final price on those problems, which I understand as they dont know the extent of the damage/problems...
This is the first time I have dealt with this toyota dealer as I bought my Prado elswhere.

      What should I do?
      Demand a cheaper service price?
Deal with it and let them do it?

      Any help would be good...
I would look outside a Toyota dealership. The Lexus RX330 I just sold needed a 100k service it was $1480 through Lexus and I paid $660 having the work done by a local highly recommended workshop.

I use a local guy in Joondalup he's one of those rare finds that is good, clean, takes pride in his business, is honest AND is very reasonable $$$. I don't use him for the Prado or wifeys new Kluger as there on the "so called" fixed price Toyota deal, he only does my company cars.

At my last service the dealer said I could be up for brakes next service. I asked how much it would cost. Answer .8hr $92 labor plus brakes at about $100.
Now work that out $110 per hour!!!!
My local guy is about $60 per hour.
And the bloke next door is the local manager at repco. (Cheep parts)
So The Local bloke could take 2 hrs (Said about 1) to do the job and I would still be in front.
Remember that if I had the brakes changes at the next service they would already have the wheels off.
On the bright side they cleaned my air filter instead of replacing it on one service cause I said I would be asleep after night shift for most of the day and they didn't want to disturb me.
Don't like propriety dealers workshops. Charge too much for labor for a mechanic (Opps sorry Technician)

If they're inspecting the filter during the service, the clips should already be undone, which means that they're charging you and hours labour to pull the filter off the shelf and plonk it on in. Do it yourself.

I'm coming up to my 50,000k service. So far i haven't paid more than $210 for any service. I've asked them to do a number of things (adjust headlights down, check for cause of creaking seat) and they haven't charged me. They've also used a number of parts (and i guess associated labour) for which i haven't been charged. These were all little things like washer fluid but it can't take them much longer to replace an air filter than it does to top up the washer reservoir, and i didn't get charged labour for that. It may cost them 2/10 of FA, but it's a gesture of good will that hasn't gone unnoticed.

I'd be looking around for somewhere else to do your servicing. Or, get them to do the $210 service and diagnose what needs to be done, then take it to someone else to get fixed.

                Mike
Mike sorry for the reality check but $41 will not buy you an hour's labour. It's at least $99.

Not only would i find a new dealer for my servicing, I'd name and shame the dealer in question and refer them to consumer affairs.

My only experience with Toyota servicing with this car was with the first 1st month checkover when I asked them to program the key for the "hold button to open close all widows etc" function which is not enabled by default. When the service "specialist" said that there was a $45 charge, I simply told them that if they didnt do it for free the car would not see the inside of their workshop again, I'll find another dealer who dosn't charge $45 for a 5 min job. Wadya know they did it for free and hopefully this will set the tone for future dealings.

KAKADAZ, you won't be dissapointed with the service you get from City Toyota. If you have any queries on the Prado ask to speak with Wayne the workshop foreman - he is excellent and happy to take the time to speak with you. Even though I have asked them to look at a few things over the past few services I have never been charged any extra 'worktime', where I expected I may have been. Wangara should be my local as well...
