Further to my posts, dealer has just offered me coverage through "Auto Assure Advantage". Apparently backed by Allianz, but I can not see anything to that effect in the pds! No mention of the underwriters, ABN's or contact details (apart from one 1300 phone number) at all! Anyone heard of these guys at all?

I think I'll stick with Toyota, Allianz or Swann. Any insight is much appreciated!

In terms of value it really is Toyota or nothing. I've used it a few times and it's seamless. Replaced my alternator, window winder motor and seatbelt, no questions asked.

My 2012 Prado Altitude is at the end of its warranty including 2 year extended dealer warranty at the end of March.
Dealer just sent me letter asking if I want a further 3 years warranty, cost $1295 taking it out to a total of 8 years of warranty coverage.
Confirmed it's same as the new car warranty with 10% discount on servicing plus national roadside assistance and unlimited claim value.
Have only done 62000 km. Will cover up to another 100,000km.

To date , the dealer CMI Toyota have been great to deal with have fixed warranty issues such as new tailshaft (tailshaft clunk problem as discussed on PP), oil leaks (in for 2 days, est cost $2000), AC not working as per temp setting ( found to be faulty sensor on lhs steering column, took them about 6 hours in 3 visits, never come across this problem before), replaced creaking support springs, ECU updates. Helped me with fitting 2nd hand nudge bar at no cost, shifted AC pipe during servicing to provide more room for auxiliary battery at no extra cost.

Was gonna get RAA to do a warranty once over for $350 but no need if I get extended warranty. I know they might be dearer than your local mechanic but this seems like a no brainer. Especially concerned about any injector issues that might come up in the future.

        What do others think?

Extended warranty has saved a few people, especially if yours is a diesel.

When I purchased may 150 in 2011 the dealer offered me the extended dealer warranty. Cant remember the cost but was over $1000. I noted in the conditions that the warranty would be void if I had the car serviced at any other dealer. This was no good to me because I was doing some travelling with the caravan and could be anywhere when the next service was due. So I declined.
But get this. When we were completing the sales agreement the big harted salesman threw in the warranty probably because I would unlikely make a claim. Well as it turned out I was home when each service fell due and all the servicing was done by said dealer. And when the alternator died it was replaced under warranty. I don't often have these sort of wins so was very happy with the outcome.

Like another person has noted, either it is Toyota Warranty or nothing. The ones that tie you to a particular dealer have too many only if's to be effective.

Can anyone post if they got a good price for Toyota extended warranty and at what dealership?

The CMI extended warranty is NOT the same a the genuine new car warranty as I found out...

CMI are good to deal with though, just read the cover you are being offered, I recall it was more akin to a driveline warranty but you'll probably find its a defined events insurance policy only.
                Cheers

Canberra Toyota quoted $1155 for extra 3 yrs (still at 100,000km) or $1285 for 3yrs (150,000Km).

                    ext warrenty

Toyota Ext warranty is the way to go.... paid $1300 for 150k 3yrs. I have had the 2010 gxl now for 1 year. had the drive shafts, transfer case and engine mounts replace no questions asked.

previous cars I have had with non manufacturer warranty always had the small print, eg, they will replace parts and only part pay depending on the age (mileage) of the car. ended up in court on one occasion..... they paid eventually...... so a true manufacturers warranty is best.

Thanks guys for all the comments. I might not have been clear in my original post. Have had my Prado from new in March 2012. Had the original 3 year factory warranty, took out CMI Secure 2 year extended warranty (yep could have taken out genuine Toyota 3 year 150,000km but didn't know about it, wasn't offered it) and am now being offered a FURTHER 3 years Cmi Secure covering years 6, 7 and 8.

CMI got back to me with firm quote which is $1495, 3 years, and another 75,000 km (on top of my current speedo reading of 62,000 km). Have still to get the policy in writing.

I haven't heard of extended warranty ever being offered beyond year 6 before (checked genuine Toyota site and only extends up to a maximum of 3 years beyond original factory warranty.

Have still to get policy detail but am being told that it's same as my years 4 & 5 CMI Secure warranty. Most of the issues I had such as the oil leaks, AC springs were repaired during years 4 & 5 with no issues. They actually picked up oil leaks during a service and said that they would cover as a warranty issue.

Pretty keen to get a further 3 years giving me 8 years in total warranty which hopefully will cover possible major issues during vehicle life.

Anybody else had cover out to 8 years or better?

After doing quite a bit of research with extended warranties, I guess I would just read the pds and fine print closely. They all vary greatly. Standard advice really.

Make sure it covers the things you want, and if your happy servicing at CMI (or whatever the arrangement is) then go ahead with it.

Good piece of mind on an 8 year old car.

Thanks, must say it is good price from what I heard was going to cost me. If you don't mind was it Belconnen or another location. Their prices seem to vary by location, not sure why but they do from time to time.

                              Cheers.

I rang about 5 dealerships to get my extended warranty. They don't need to see the car, it's all done by email etc. Just needs to be under 80k and in new car warranty from memory.

The prices ranged from $1,980 to $1,150 for exactly the same Toyota extended warranty. Ring around and bargain, I ended up emailing one back and saying, I can get it for $1,200 will buy today, can you beat it? They said yes $1,150 but absolute min. Didn't want to get rude with asking for less.
