I am not sure why you are all having issues with insurance. I had three quotes to choose from as of Monday this week.
Firstly congrats on the new car pickup

Secondly who where the quotes by and are you sure your covered for a PRADO ALtitude and not a LANDCRUISER ALTITUDE , wouldnt want you to have to claim just to be told sorry mate this isnt the car on the policy....

Dealer advised me no towing for the first 1000km and no towing of 750kg or more for the next 2000km.

100% My insurance policy sitting in front of me states 2012 Toyota Landcruiser Prado Altitude.

Also is there a way that you can dim the navigation when driving at night. The 120 series Grande let you have a night version of the screen.

        • From memory the dimmer is on the right hand side of the steering wheel mounted to the dash just below or the the right of below the taco.

It looked like a dial kind of switch?

If you have been told that you're not meant to tow for 3000km why would you put the vehicle under even greater stress by driving in sand...

              • I am driving mine straight from the yard across the Simpson, then back again to Birdsville, stopping for a pie and lemon squash before heading up to the telegraph track to the cape. Once there I will me entering in a inaugural Kimberley's winch challenge. From there I will be then heading to Alice and mounting Ayers Rock (using low range) before making my way to Melbourne to finally head home to Brisbane while towing a Mack truck in time for my first service ... Just hope my 200 series insurance policy covers me!

                      • we are taking out insurance with toyota insurance as they are the only ones we found who will insure us for an altitude as racq, aami, and shannons had nothing listed. Toyota will insure as prado gxl plus all additional extras with an agreed value of rrp for altitude until system updates which wont be for up to another month at which stage the other insurers may have their system updated and we will go back to our normal insurer.

our car arrived yesterday but not ready for delivery yet - cant wait.

Can you explain how that is different to all the other insurers?

I just think you haven't been asking the right questions or to speaking to the right people.

                          • Woo hoo picked up the elusive Altitude today, very impressed!

                            Sounds system is awesome too!

Toyota does not currently have the altitude in its system, when doing the paper work they advised they had called the Toyota IT support desk and it is not expected to show even in Toyota's system for a while apparently. So if your getting your car insured all the best, but if it aint in Toyota's system I am pretty sure it aint in any 3rd parties system.

Here is a piccie of the new addition to the household..

                              • Hi all, 2 days in and we have clocked up a few K's waving like Queen Elizabeth to all the other Prado owners and pointing to the Altitude badge on the back.

Just something I came across today while giving it a probing. We had a 7 pin wiring loom installed with the Toyota towbar (yes and I am sure there is much debate over 5 v 7 and flat v round yarda yarda) very happy with the product. On inspecting the job to locate where I would be tapping into for an Electronic Brake Controller for the camper trailer we are looking to get at the next Brisbane 4x4 show, I noted that the wiring loom from the trailer plug went up through a large round hole (what other kinds are there) which ends up in the Jack well (the little hatch on the left of your cargo area).

In further probing, I found there was a rubber grommet that was on the other side of the hole and the wire loom passed through it. Being smarter then the average bear, I figured this was the same size as the empty hole and found that it fitted very nicely when I pulled it through and adjusted its edges to flange the empty hole (still stating the obvious).

It would appear the grommet had come out or not been put in correctly. The wire loom has a very generous amount of cable so it was just dangling under the body (not in a bad way but I will zip tie it up neater anyway). It may check to see if this is secured in yours as it would allow water to get up into the jack well if not in place.

Also when in the jack well the generous amount of wire loom from the plug was bundled up and tucked into a nook and after pulling what seemed like 25 meters of wiring out (was only a couple of inches actually but you know how boys exaggerate) was the Blue wire to tap into your electric trailer brake controller device (Yes I am sure there are many and ones are better then others but I will leave the brand I purchased in fear of someone's uncle owning a business whos mates coworker is the grandfather of the inventor of another brand).
So if your hooking up a controller you will find the blue wire from the plug exposed and ready for you in the jack well (yes I know its in another thread but use Altitude owners are special).

                                See you out there
