engel fridge price

went in to anaconda for a engel 40l fridge freezer and they were priced at $1039 rrp$1299 with 20% off but the one i grabbed had a typo on the sticker of 40% off so i confronted the manager and i told her i wanted that fridge at the advertised 40% and she said it shouldn't be that price so after i told her how it was gonna go down i walked out with the fridge and case for $780 is that a good deal??

Fantastic Deal!

Technically the store has the right to refuse your "offer" of 40% off, (even with the 40% tag on it).. [the item in question is just removed from sale]... and any retail manager should have known this. Goes back to a precedent set with a clearly incorrect price on very expensive product.

Notwithstanding that , they actually 'accepted' your offer, by accepting the payment, so the deal was finalised.

The discount only applies to Primus and Waeco (20%) but they are no longer stocking Engel going forward so you should be able to cut a deal since they are effectively trying to get rid of stock. I was offered 10% off and a bag for half price. I didn't bite... yet.. Cant decide b/w a Waeco or an Engel. I've never owned a portable fridge before so I'm wary of choosing the right brand. Any advice would be appreciated.

Isn't the Engel Eclipse for $849 including the transit case at Aussie Disposals the best deal around?

I have been traveling with one for 18 months now and seems basically the same as the metal Engels.

We purchased a 60L Waeco at the (Camping) Show last April / May 2011 in Sydney, and the ARB and Waeco were both top of our list. We chose the Waeco purely because it has a uncovered metal cooling element which extended to within 2 inches (5cm) of the top, which meant that the maximum cooling effect of the frig covered 'most' of the internal volume.

This compared with the ARB unit's cooling elements which (from memory) seemed to stop about 4 inches (10cm) from the top? which would suggest that this 'less cold' area at the top was a significant percentage of the overall volume?? as the 60L ARB frig has a large overall dimensions (footprint), and a shallow depth.

However, against the Waeco, we were TWO DAYS into out FIRST trip away when one of the 'pins' on the lid, which act as a hinge snapped clean off. It was replaced under warranty, but I would have to seriously question the use of plastic in such a high stress area. I am sure I was not the first to suffer this issue. Poor design, or choice of materials in my opinion.

Funnily enough, we much preferred the ARB lid design, but decided against the frig on the above grounds!

It's funny. I liked it because the core didn't extend so high.

I've had it set on -13 for the last two weeks, meat and fish has stayed extremely frozen at the bottom, while I've been able to have cans on top which only turned into slushies which "defrost" to extremely cool drinks quickly.
