  • Replace rear windscreen wiper rubber

Asked previously but couldn't find the thread now, does anyone know how you replace the rear wiper rubber as the wiper parks under the rear spoiler. Nothing in the manual and I am sure as hell not paying Toyota to do it.
My current thinking is to turn on the wiper and turn off the ignition when it has swept down, so it is accessible any other ideas?

Surely someone has found out the mystery, I can't see it being to hard and surely there would be a way other than what I am considering

        Gday Kev7762

Answer: I always thought that the wiper parks at the bottom of the windscreen behind the spare wheel?

Never the less! an easy solution (As you stated) would be to turn the wiper on and as it approaches where you want it to stop on the window turn the ignition off and it will stop there You then change the wiper blade insert.

I am guessing that the wiper parks vertical on the back window from what you have described (If i understand correctly).

If you want to have it park at the bottom of the window (Like most all other prado's) Then remove the complete wiper arm off (10mm nut behind the plastic weather cover) then turn the rear wiper on and wait for it to auto park, Turn the ignition off then re-fit the wiper arm so that it is horizontal at the bottom of the window roughly parallel with the rear window heat line on the window (2nd heat-line from the bottom). Nip the 10mm nut up and try the wiper again! It should this time park at the bottom of the windscreen

TIP: When i change the two front wiper blades i always transfer the wiper blade from the passenger side (N/S/F - Near Side Front) to the rear as this rubber wiper insert is the same size in width. Just cut the access length off. (You save money on extra blade and is more than good enough for back windscreen).

        Cheers

Kev has a 150, so the rear wiper arm is tucked under the rear spoiler.

Yep 150 so the wiper is under the rear spoiler when parked, looks neat but makes it impossible to change the wiper blades in the parked position. Pretty sure the fella who designed these would have had a simple solution, just can't work out why it is not in the manual.

Its a toyota, so new parts are never needed.......Even if the blade comes off, by using some wire, cable ties, chewing gum and a mars bar wrapper you will get your Pradorig home every time.

I am surprised they did not make them out of steel, rubber seems so last year....

Anyone able to assist with a simple solution for this, surely someone has changed one of these at some stage in the last 2 years.
I'm happy to park the wiper free of the spoiler and change that way, but surely mr Toyota engineer got paid a lot of money for a better solution than this.

Someone must know the official Toyota solution?

A young bloke at Toyota told me exactly that! He did not know himself so he asked someone.

The official procedure listed in the repair manual says that you have to turn on the car, turn on the rear wiper and as soon as it goes down you have to shut off the car.

I had the full Bosch (REAR H 309) replacement part - rubber strip and plastic arm - easy replacement by turning car on, get rear wiper vertical and turn car off as described above...

                              Rear wiper rubber replacement.
I change my wiper rubbers every 20,000km or more frequently.
                              Sit in driver seat.
Keep foot of brake pedal, and Press ignition button once till igition is on acc (ie dont start)
Turn rear wiper on and look in rear view mirror.
As soon as the wiper starts its return from the fully down position, press the start stop button once to turn ignition off.
It usually takes one or two attempts to get the timing right, but the aim is to stop the wiper in about mid travel.

I have used a couple of different wiper rubbers, but in the end I just use the genuine wiper rubbers.

                              I hope that helps somewhat
