  • VX Waiting List.

Just put my name down on the list, hopefully it will be mid may when it gets off the boat, otherwise it could be 3-4 months
Took us a while to decide, i waited for the LC200 GX to come out but at the same price as a Prado VX it was hard to justify. Plus the KDSS is just amazing from the 3 hour test drive we had.
Took an altitude for a drive but didn’t really like the body roll, did like the sunroof tho. But kdss is worth giving up a sunroof, all the other crap they bolted onto an altitude didn’t excite me much. I don’t even really care much for the Toyota satnav.
They offered to put a hayman reese towbar but I’m going to ask for a kaymar step at least then i can put dual wheels on or jerry cans of water, and mount the camera without the wheel cover.

They also offered to swap out the 18s for 17s as I’m keen to put some cooper AT/3s.

anyone got some advice for a new VX owner, did they fix the body sag issue in the KDSS?

    I bought an Altitude.

Did not like the body roll however the ARB Lift kit fixed that.

No body roll or pitching under brakes now.
    Cheers

Suspected that some stiff suspension would help with body roll, the altitude was only 3k less than the VX, however from what I understand of KDSS you get the best of both worlds, stiff on road performance, flexible off-road.
Did you take a VX for a drive? Massive difference when you compare both from take-off to stoping and hard cornering.. Hopefully it’s not a letdown off-road.

        Bob

Yes I took a VX for a testdrive & it drove well, better than standard Altitude .

But I got the VX for 6K less & wanted the sun roof.

This then allowed me to get the accessories I wanted with the $6K.

Disapointing thing about both was not being able to get the pure white.
        Cheers

The mrs didn’t want to give up the sunroof much either but soon as she was behind the wheel of the VX all that disappeared lol. It just seems more nibble, and taking off from a standing start and driving around she likes to try and keep the green “eco” light off as much as possible. She normally drives a V6 Rav4 around so the D4D Prado was different.

You will not be dissapointed, the VX is really good. The KDSS is great off road. I recently did Cape York on stock suspension and the KDSS assisted greatly. I took the Prado to ARB in SA a few weeks back and got a Old Man Emu lift and bash plates. We nearly got 3'' from the lift and yes they have fixed the KDSS sag / lean. Really happy with it.

I bought additional Speedywheel Avalanche 17'' wheels to replace the 18'' offroad, footprint makes a big difference.

All the best with your new car!

              Tnx!

Did they have to use a coil spacer to level out the suspension after lift?
Went with a Haymen Reece towbar and genuine Toyota wiring for now.

List of stuff I'm thinking about anyone have experience with these on a VX let me know. Is there much difference in the body of a VX and GXL?

Coopers do the AT/3's in 18" as well, Im going to swap mine out for $1000 when and if my VX arrives....

It hurts to see others getting their cars after waiting 2-3 weeks when Ive been waiting for 3.5 months but Im sure I'd be happy too if I only had to wait such a short time.

Good to here your thoughts on KDSS, I was tempted to get the Altitude and simply get a 2" lift but after reading how many millions of dollars Toyota invested into the technology I figured it had to be more complex than stiffer springs. After reading about your experiences with both types of suspension systems Im glad I bought the VX too.

I'm in SA. They told me is wait 3 months as well, then I called around and found a shipment was coming mid may, then when i placed the order they found one had just landed and they had it at the dealership by Friday last week, they just need to do pre delivery now. Build date is 14 march 2012.

Yeah they do make 18in tyres, 275/65r18 are illegal oversized tyres in south Australia. I think QLD allow 50mm oversize, so does VIC. I rather have legal tyres just one less thing insurence company and the cops to worry about as I just got my license on Friday

You know about the Kdss history right? It's developed by a WA company was used in Dakar and then banned, with actually change of no active swaybar that links front to back.

Also I like the system in the VX it's a lot simpler then the lc200 version, I think even the kakadu version has a few difference as well. My dad and father inlaw who both drive a GU Nissan, are like forget the fancy stuff its just going to be 1 more thing to break, I think they are just a little jealuse of my new ride.

Your right Bob, they are just jealous lol

IM getting my Coopers in 265-60-18 so they are as legal as yours I believe. My mate manages the Bob Jane Store here and he advises to do most things by the book so I trust its legal. I had the option to switch to 17"s and I'll no doubt regret not doing it but I'd still have to change the tires even if I did. Its when the new ones wear out that I will pay the penalty but my buddy says I can pick up Speedy Wheels for $200 a corner in 17's if I want later down the track.

Oh I just seen they have passenger AT/3 in that size I was looking just at light truck, yeah the 18s seem more expensive and less side wall but would be good for onroad, I was back and forward between 18s and have a 2nd set of 17s for offroad it just come down to cost in the end and practical.
I seen a lot of oem 17s on eBay for cheap, which I'll put on a trailer so I can have all round the same wheel and tyre when it comes to it.

I have AT3 on the v6 rav4 and have put about 10k on them really good tyre.
