Hi There, Does anyone know of a insect screen available for the 2012 Prado GXL. Toyota do not manufacture one
Thanks
Ian
I had my insect screen left behind in the garage after I sold the 80 series cruiser. It is a metal screen that fitted to the outside of 80's grill.
I removed the grill from the Prado and zip tied the screen to the inside of the grill, then re-fitted the grill in place. It covers all the grill, except for a few mm either side, I also had to cut a small section out so that I could operate the bonnet release lever. Has been there since 2010 and works effectively.
When fitted on the outside of the 80 series, the screen rubbed off a lot of the silver colour from the grill. On the inside there is no problem.
Some cut to fit fine mesh black plastic gutter guard fixed with fine cable ties looks neat and works vey well on both top and bottom. Not noticeable from a few metres away
I cut and fitted some heavy metal flyscreen behind the grill. Have done this on all my cars and never had any radiator trouble. Used to be pretty horrendous cleaning it when I was living in country SA and we had locus plagues.

2010 Silver GXL Prado 150, D4D Auto, with a few non standard bits
Activating this old thread. The perfect screen in my opinion is what is used on bicycle front baskets. It is plastic coat steel and quite robust will about 3-4 mm holes. Won't keep out midges but certainly will keep out grasshoppers, locusts, etc. The trouble is, I don't know where to buy it. It is too expensive to buy two bike baskets and pull them apart although this would probably work. I would also like to put screen behind the grill and also lower down near the fan and bottom of radiator as insects can cause damage here too.
Prado GXL 2012 Charcoal - Drifta Drawers, Cargo Barrier, Sidewinder Dual Battery kit, Ironman Bar, Narva lights, Safari Snorkel, Airbags, TX3350 kit, Waeco CFX65DZ - often seen with Thule 2.2M narrow roof pod and towing 2014 Kimberley Kamper. Could be anywhere!

If you head off to the Rosehill Caravan and Camping show, coming up shortly, you may find something there.

A good option to fit some sort of screen if you plan going anywhere early in the season up here (Cape York). It's not the bugs but the huge amount of grass seeds that clog your radiator and intercooler that's the issue.
