  • Wheres the flares?

Hi i have noticed that the 150 series prado has no wheel arch flares. They look so good on the 120 series. In my opinion they really set off the prado body styling. What's your thoughts?. cheers.

I actually like not having them, they are usually an issue of damage off road and corrosion due to trapped debris in the front.

I like not having them. 3 days after I got my VE commodore a couple of years ago I put it on a pole because I misjudged the flared wheel arch on the front quarter panel. Thankfully I got used to it and didn't do it again. The prado I can see exactly where the side of it is, and I've had it six weeks now and not hit anything .

Either way, I bought the car for its capability and the way it suits my lifestyle, not the way it looks.

How interesting. I absolutely could not ignore the looks of a vehicle when purchasing: As well as function, appearance/style plays an important part in my decision making on any car (or house for that matter) purchase. That's one reason I got a used 120 series rather than a new 150 series, for instance. Fascinating to see the criteria others use/don't use.

Can't see it when you're driving though

I just don't like buying second hand vehicles as you don't know what they've been through.

That and the fact a 150 was the same price as a 120.

You have had it six weeks and not hit anything! That will do me!. You make it sound like you've had a fender bender or two?.

Contrary to popular opinion on this site, I always cherished my old 100 series and would have never bought a 120 because I always thought they were so damn ugly. Too rounded and bulbous. Tail lights look like someone squeezed the life out of it and it's eyes are bulging. Soon as I saw the 150, I liked it's styling. Now I'm ducking for cover!

gregbme I agree if all car makers kept the same ugly styling cues the world would be a very boring place!
Opinions are like a$$holes everyone has one and most of them stink!

I started looking for a 120 because of looks but now I prefer the 150 and it's a better car.

I like the look of either (Id have a 150 no problems) but reckon the 120 has an advantage off road for the fact if you nudge against some thing your only replacing a piece of plastic (if its a gentle touch) with the 150 its straight onto the main metal panel, same as bottom of the doors etc. Yes they may catch some stuff behind them but Ive never seen a 120 or a 90 for that matter with rust behind the plastic panels ?? And aas far as looks go, it has a lot to do with what I buy, if a prado looked like this

                        [IMG][/IMG]

I would never ever purchase a prado again...............Friggin butt ugly thing. I dont give a rats if their practical or suit some elses needs there will never be one in my garage.........lol

Nah, that was my first ever and only - started a new job, company car and dinged it... on my third day. I was worried I was going to do it again once it was fixed, I'd always driven small cars, the previous one was a Mazda2 (my sister has it now, looks hilariously crap when she parks next to my Prado ) and it turns out you can't fit a Commodore easily in the same park that you can the Mazda!

I'm also with wooley - the last couple of cars I have bought have been brand new, then I know if its crap its because the car is crap, not previously been mistreated. Also now got the excuse of a nice tax write off on depreciation I actually like the look of the 150 more than the 120 ... it just wasn't a defining factor in my decision for purchase.

I personally think the flares are a quite dated look, almost an afterthought when wanting larger wheels. I much prefer the lines of the 150.

Bolt on flares remind me too much of Jeeps.

I've had two 120's because I like their looks ( and flares ) and the way they drive. I dislike the 150's that much that if it was the only vehicle Toyota made, I'd buy a Nissan! If we all didn't have different likes & dislikes the world would be very boring.
