Plugged the wife's iPhone 5 in via the usb and the apple cable last night and the steering wheel controls worked. Will try and find my dongle today and give it a try but it sounds hopeless.

Often when I do this, after a minute of two get an error code on the screen, and the iphone stops playing. Works ok for you? (GXL)

My new Kakadu arrived yesterday and I'm slowly getting used to it... buying it over the internet meant that I didn't have the chance to go through various things with the dealer.

Does the USB / AUX audio input only work when the engine is running? I tried getting it to work with just the car's electrics / electronics on but I was only able to select the FM / AM inputs.

I'm still not having any luck with this. Does anyone else have an Android phone (SGS4) that sends its audio over USB? I can't even select the USB input when it's plugged in.

The USB function re: AUDIO on a SG4 on Android, just doesn't work. The way I get it working is using the AUX option with a 3.5mm retractable cable and all works fine.

Just solved my A2DP music streaming problem.....

Fitted a JVC KS-BTA100 (on a run out price at Super Cheap Auto $30) plugs onto the 3.5mm Aux input and then connect to a 12v supply. This device can also be used for hands free phone as well. The only draw back is that you have to press the Aux button before answering.
On the upside this now lets me connect a second phone (work) to the factory BT connection.

If you only want to connect one phone my iphone 5 connected to both the factory BT and the JVC at the same time... yes that's right both BT connections at the same time, so then you don't need to press the Aux before answering the phone it works as per normal, muting the sound and answering the phone with the steering wheel button. Then press the Aux button for streaming music.

Best 30 bucks I've spent in a long time.

Here is another option that I was looking at.

Why not just put all your music onto a mini USB?

Ok... can't do Bluetooth audio in my 2012 Altitude. Got Spotify Premium and thought I would try & put it through with a cable. Got a male to male Aux cable which goes into earpiece socket on my IPhone 5 & into Aux input. No sound. Went to local CMI Toyota, they were great, turns out you have to turn volume right up with n IPhone on Spotify and it works fine. Technician said same thing needed if you use IPhone USB to lightning connected in to USB socket. He said its a better way to go because you get full functionality and phone charges. You reckon I can get it to work with Spotify.... no way.
Checked back with him, said that if you upgrade iOS you may have to turn phone on/off and try again. Even try deleting phone and connecting back again. No go.

Message comes up saying no data. Have used normal sub with songs in MP3 and works fine.

                        Is this a Spotify thing?

I just found this thread, thought I would explain how this works. The system needs to scan the tracks on the iPod/iPhone before it will accept that it is, in fact, an actual iPod/iPhone. So if you have no tracks on the device and are expecting Spotify to work, it won't. You need to have at least one track in iTunes for it to work. Once you have one track in iTunes, the head unit will start playing that track, and then you just hit play in Spotify and it will fade out the iTunes track and start playing the Spotify track.

There is a catch with this though if you only put on one track, sometimes Spotify will close and the car will just play that one track on loop. It also gets annoying as you find that you hear that song ever 4 or 5 times you turn on the car, I was using the free U2 track that came with the iPhone, I hate U2... enough said. To get around this, I created a track of silence and loaded it into iTunes. Now I just have to launch Spotify when it closes and that is it.

Next thing, simulated Spotify Bluetooth: Spotify cloud now synchronises two devices with Spotify open, so you can use one as a remote control for the other. So I use my wives old iPhone as my Spotify player permanently in the centre console, and my Samsung Galaxy S6 can choose the tracks to play as if it were the one playing the music. The upside is: battery life is way better. The downside is: if you use the stop button on the android device and hit play again it will start playing on the android device. If you turn the car off or turn the stereo off it will continue the Spotify track when it comes back on.

Bluetooth USB adapters: I have tried a few of these, none of them work as they have no music to be scanned by the head unit. I am trying to hack the firmware of one of them to put my silence track on it, but haven't figured it out yet.

Also, one small quirk. Track information doesn't work for Spotify tracks that start playing but does work immediately after you turn the car on.

I use Pandora with USB. None of these issues, just set and forget $5 month.

All streaming services work the same, you must have at least one track in iTunes if using USB. When you connect to the head unit, the first thing it says is Scanning iPod, if it finds nothing it doesn't work.

Are you using USB or AUX?

Even though this is an Extremely Old thread, id thought id add my solution to Bluetooth streaming in the Altitude.

All you will need to do it get one of these

                                https://www.amazon.com.au/ILS-Univer.../dp/B07Z89N8TJ

a Universal 12V Car Bluetooth Module Adapter AUX-IN AUX Audio Cable Wireless Radio Stereo USB 3.5MM Jack Plug

they can be found on eBay or online for around $30

Great thing about the connection is both the AUX and the USB are in the same spot so just plug both in (The USB is used to power the Bluetooth device, the AUX is used to send the audio to the car) Put the Stereo on AUX and your good to go, you can still also use the Bluetooth Phone connection without any issues.
