  • Kakadu suspension

    Hi
I have the 2012 Kakadu and find the suspension hits the bump stops over speed bumps and anywhere the suspension rises and then comes down to a hard thud. I am dissappointed with this and have taken it back to toyota 4 times. The dealership "can't find a problem". It occurs 1 up and worse with passengers, my previous two prados models never had this issue. Have other owners with the air suspension felt this?
    Thanks
    Damien

Don't have a Kakakdu myself, but i recall reading this post in a South African 4wd forum which mentions a problem with KDSS fitted prado's and their rear axels hitting bumps stops. Someone came up with the bright idea to shorten the bump stop, but Toyota issued a warning not to do this because it could impact critically on some components.

What setting you on? I made the mistake early on running on comfort on dirt. Did a fair bit time on the bump stops until I worked out normal mode was the way to go. Time to lift!!!!

You can either lift the rear with panel washers...(see my build thread) or unbolt the Kakadu bump stops and install GXL bump stops there is only about an inch clearance standard.

DDunc, It's been covered before. Please familiarise yourself with the forum and search before making your first post. As mick has mentioned, shortening bumpstops or installing the bumpstops from a GXL are not recommended options for a Kakadu fitted with TEMS. This may lead to your shocks bottoming before the bumpstop and destroying themselves in the process.

I suggest that your rear suspension is set too low to begin with, meaning it's too close to the bumpstop at static ride height. Ask Toyota to adjust it up for you and have a read here: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...r-KDSS-Prado-s

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Edit: The only time it's OK to use GXL bumpstops in a Kakadu is if you first remove the TEMS shocks and replace them with non TEMS or aftermarket shocks of the correct length.
