Apparently they are causing BIG problems in the Manual Navara D40's.... burning out in a short space of time....

Essentially not machinable so a throwaway item when clutch time comes and they are big $ to replace too.

I agree, they are not a good choice for 4wd vehciles that do go off road.
2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.

Guaranteed to be replaced three times under warranty or your Hilux sitting in your back yard if Toyota Australia don't come to the party. You need a gold mine to keep a Hilux going these days.

WOW.... I didn't realise Hiluxes were that bad..... is it just the manuals or are Autos a problem too?

I had a KUN26 SR5 and replaced the clutch at 120000k's. No dual mass fly wheel in my 1KD-FTV? Had the solid one machined down and stuffed back in. No worries. Maybe older Hilux's had a DMF.
We have GQ's at work and they have Dual Mass Flywheels and that costs about $2500 for a new clutch and DMF. They work hard and sometimes tow a trailer, so they wear out regularly.

Extreme clutch make a DMF replacement to switch to a solid flywheel to suit a lot of cars now.
I have used many of these kit and everyone has been really happy with the set up.
Personally I used one in my old R51 Pathy and it was a big step up.
