  • Securing the spare tyre - 150 series

Is there a way to secure the spare tyre on the 150 series? I've read that the Toyota nut lock is ineffective. Is that true? I couldn't see any obvious places to use a bike lock or chain. I've taken the spare wheel off now, until I can come up with a better way of securing it. Is the spare wheel cover also a target of thieves?

    Hi garbage,

I bought a stainless steel "Tamper Proof Screw" (Tork Screw) & key to fit the spare wheel cover.

It may not be impossible to remove the cover, but it will take time & effort to remove it.

    Tar Trek.

      Garbage

can only offer my experience, but a recent 10,000km tour of places away from the cities showed no signs of any tampering with the cover, let alone the wheel. Couple of things. Getting the cover off when the rear door is closed is not easy (I tried that before I realised it was a lot easier with the door open ...). Prado wheels are not that special so are probably only of interest to other Prado owners (although there are rather a lot of them).

      cheers
