Spend a day in a V6 the power is instant ( wifey had a diesel previously and hated it) and manual Kakadus don't exist.

Corkster, Just on your comment about the servicing is about the same due to capped price servicing, is that only for 6 services? As if you keep the car for a long time, the diesel servicing repairs could get very costly out of the capped price range - you might want to take that into consideration as well.

I think both motors are great and suit specific needs/preferences. Drive them and buy the one you like you can't go wrong.

I'm in the same boat, looking for a 150 and have text driven both. The missus and I have settled on a petrol, it's quieter, has more acceleration and is smoother. If I was towing a 20ft caravan around the Simpson desert if be buying a diesel, but I'm not, let's be honest 99% of a 4wd's life is spent on city streets. Fuel use doesn't bother me, as I'm coming from a 6 litre Holden, and to be honest diesel repair costs frighten me. But, each has its advantages, it really comes down to test driving them back to back, and you'll know straight away which is best for you.

Morning. I just drove the diesel again and must admit it is pretty good, accelerates better than the Pajero and quieter. But the wife has said petrol, End Of Story. So that question is answered. Rather than add to this post, I will ask the beach/rust question in a new post. I have just read some disturbing things. Thanks for all the replies, real world experience is what counts more than advertising. Cheers

How long will you be keeping the car? I wouldnt get the spray on rust proofing it coats everything in crap and sand in some cases tends to stick to it. I am not sure on how good electronic rust proofing is it would be good to here from someone that has it? at least you can take that to the next car.

For me petrol 4wd is like trying to be a hoon in a huge pig of a car that don`t handle or go anyway, so relax and cruise, might as well have a diesel. But there is no way I would get a hot hatch with a diesel.
Interesting that you base your engine choice on the fuel type and not the merits of the engines on offer. You're either a diesel man or you take more than the fuel type into consideration.
