Ok can anyone tell what thing is supposed to do? I reckon mine does nothing. Have tried turning it on and off and am buggered if I can see any difference when there is a car behind. Book says very little and it has only taken me 2 years to ask the question. So...how does it work and can you test it? Thank you all.

It supposed to get darker when there is a car behind you at night. There is a little light sensor just next to the button. I don't think it works very well as the door mounted rear wheel casts a shadow directly over the sensor so I don't think it picks up the headlights behind ya.

The rear view mirror dimmer works well.
Obviously it is only for night driving and when on the hwy I notice a real difference when a car is behind me.
It takes the glare out of the following headlights.

Just turn on your interior lights or alternatively, shine a torch directly at the mirror whilst driving at night.
You'll see the mirror gradually go dark, which helps reduce the amount of glare being reflected back to the driver's eyes.
On a Lexus RX, it also dims the door mirrors through the same electrochromatic process.Comment
