  • Tekonsha Prodigy brake Controller

    Hi all,
I have a brand new 16 ft caravan on order that I will be towing with our 2011 GXL Prado. The caravan dealer recomends that I install a Tekonsha Prodigy brake Controller into our Prado. Does anyone have these units fitted and how easy are they to use.

Hi Bob, I use one and it's very good. Lots of discussion on this on the forum, just do a search.

Agreed the P3 is a great controller... Had one on the 120 series, and now on the 150...

I use a P3 (like others above) it certainly is an easy controller to use. Can't comment on the P2 model however.

I was going to use one but I did not know where to put it as the ideal position is taken by an air bag. I installed the RedArk unit up behind the dash and can highly recomend the unit.

I went the Tekonsha P3 as well, as mentioned the biggest issue is where to install it. I opted to put it under the dash on the LHS, I am unsure where the air bag deploys but being a knee airbag I assume it comes out and up so mine should be well clear. The location actually works pretty well, it's out of the way and not noticeable when not in use, I can reach the manual lever with only a slight lean forward, the screen is clear for viewing by looking through the steering wheel and I have only hit my leg on it once on a long drive when I was trying to stand on top of the foot rest.

If I ever manage to deploy the air bag I will let you know how that goes...

Thanks to all who have replied to my inquiry. I will speak to the caravan dealer & see what his thoughts are on the matter. They recomend & install the Prodigy units. As I am a pretty big bloke, they may even know of some other spot to fit the unit that doesn't interfere with either the airbag or my knees.

I installed a P3 Last week... Second one I have done and its simple and easy to use. My only suggestion for piece of mind is to over spec you power and brake cables and solder / heatshrink the joins...

Easy to install i am not sure on the 150's but on the 120's removing the ash tray and putting it in the slot is a popular option i used to have it down by the dash but got sick of hitting it with my knee hense the move to the ashtray
