  • 6 month servicing vs 10,000kms

I've had my Prado GXL for a month now. I only do about 15,000 kms a year. Would it void warranty / be bad for the car if I were to only service every 8 months @ 10,000 kms intervals? Or would it be better with an oil/filter change @ 5,000 km intervals and the log book service @ 10,000 km intervals?

I don't know if it would void your warranty if you serviced 8 months/10,000km but I would just stick to servicing every 6 months (regardless if it hadn't reached 10,000km) that way you have serviced to the log book recommendations and this would be much better for re-sale.

    Cheers,

    Jeff

You will also loose your $210 fixed priced servicing if u go over 3 months outside the scope, or 8 months and 8 months, by the second device u are 1 month outside of the 3 month overdue maximum.

So are you suggesting using up all 6 fixed price services whether they be 5k or 10k services?

I'm just out of my fixed price service and warranty on the 2009 120 Diesel. I serviced my vehicle based on KM alone, that is, every 10,000 km. As I don't do the 'expected' km in the time frame Toyota simply service the vehicle accordingly - that is at my 40,000 k service they did a 50,000 k service (you can work it back from there).

This has no affect on your warranty especially if its serviced by a Toyota dealer.

Perform the service on whichever comes first. You will also be looked upon a bit more favourably a bit later on if you have any issues even after the warranty has expired.

Or do it every 10k and do an oil change in between yourself.

10k or 6 months whichever comes first.

              Low klms=severe conditions=oil every 5k.

I travel on average 15.500 kms per year, including the trips away, (same with the 80 series cruiser I previuosly owned) but still have the vehicles serviced every 6 months. Leaving the oil too long in the engine can cause sludge formation, also a build up of contaminants in the oil.

I used to get my old 90 Series serviced at 10K intervals which meant it really only got serviced once a year. Other than the odd reminder letter I never had any problem with the capped priced servicing that came with the extended warranty (vehicle was purchased 2nd-hand through a dealer).

With the newer 150 I've been told I have to get it serviced every 6 months for the extended warranty. I'm in an odd situation where I still have a month of the original factory warranty left with an overlap of the 3 month statutory warranty, the extended warranty won't start till the 3 month one ends.

The 150 has only done 42K but has already had the 50K service done by the previous owner who went strictly by the 6 month rule. So now when it comes due for the 50K service what should I do?

get another 50000 km service done if you want to follow the kms, I personally do a service at 5000 km intervals, a well serviced machine is a reliable machine

Service by time or km, whichever comes first. So carry on with what the previous owner has done and service the car 6 months from the last service and it will be the 60K service.

I take it 6 month service intervals are unique to Aus? - here in the UK (and the rest of Europe I assume).. it is 12 months or 10,000 miles...
