yes... but in the "colony" here is Australia the temperatures are a little higher, the roads a little dustier the pot holes a little deeper and we generally drive further to go places over rougher terrain usually...so they say six monthly service intervals here in the Great South Land

I do 10,000 kms a year so until the warranty expires I'll stick to the 6 months / 5,000 km service intervals at Toyota. Then I will go back to my mechanic who actually knows what he is doing.

BTW: My Hilux work ute does all the kays, did 75,000 kms last year and work pays for the servicing and diesel!

Point taken but how come Hyundai specifies only once a year ? (for a car not a 4 by)

exactly, its a car not a 4WD, so leaving the service a bit longer with the hyundai that never leaves the blacktop is ok, but the Prado deserves more frequent servicing due to the nature of the climate and terrain etc.

I've dropped the oil at 5K using genuine filter. I will stick to the capped price servicing requirements till it expires then just have them service it every 10k only whilst I dump the oil every 5k. Oil and filters are cheap....

The schedule is actually every 10k on these motors, every 5k might be a good idea but not nescessary according to Toyota.

Toyota can not deny a warranty claim if you get it serviced every 10k or 6 months whichever comes first.

I guess my driving habits have been handy in that I have consistently done 10k every 6 months fitting in just nicely with the service intervals. I have also done the 5k change myself just for piece of mind.

              Cheers Andrew

It made it to 50k keep up the 6 month services?

If it is found that the soot and the ash content in the sump is outside the range, then your warranty claim doesn't stand a chance.
I certainly, wouldn't like to buy a vehicle with a 1KD-FTV in it that had the oil changed every 10,000 kms that's for sure.
Clean engine oil means clean internal components, and happy motoring with far less repairs. It's cheaper to keep your oil clean in the long run.
                    The Roo.
Hey Roo, are you certain that Toyota will deny a warranty clim if oil is not changed every 5,000km?
Maybe I am reading your post incorrectly, or maybe you are referring to a differnt model Prado, but my diesel 150 prado KDJ 150, has a 10,000km service interval. (Now, I personally choose to do an oil change in between scheduled services, but honestly, the scheduled service is every 10,000km or 6moths 'whichever occurs first" , and for me I am doing lots of km so the km always come first)....anyway, just checking Roo,.... maybe you are referring to an earlier model Prado, but the Toyota interval is 10,000 km or 6 months "whichever occurs first"....

I just did my own engine oil and oil filter yesterday (along with the main diesel fuel filter) and boy, the engine oil was as black as the ace of spades...and I know this is normal for a diesel, but there is no getting away from it... it is so black...maybe I'm wasting my time and money changing engine oil at 5,000km but jee, it surely looks like it needs a change.....but not according to Toyota, they are definately happy with changing the oil at 10,000km.... or 6 months "whatever occurs first"......

No that is incorrect for the 1kd, the scheduled service interval is 10,000kms. Once again every 5k is a good idea but not needed to maintain warranty.

The service shedule for the 1kz is every 5k.

                      Cheers Andrew
