  • VX verses GX

    Greetings from New Zealand.

We are looking to purchase a Prado. The GX has the spare wheel on the rear door while the VX has it somewhere else?

Where is the spare on the VX and what does the GX have where the VX has the spare?

    Any advantage between the two?

    Thank you

    Hi Young1,

Here in Aus, the GX is the base model Prado whilst the VX has quite a few options and sits under the top of the line Kakadu.

    Model designation goes like this,

    Kakadu
    VX
    GXL
    GX

All models here in Aus have the spare wheel on the rear door.

If the VX in NZ does not have the wheel on the rear door then it will be under the rear of the vehicle. This will give you a smaller fuel tank. All 150 series Prado's here in Aus have 150ltr tank. So with the spare under the floor, I would say that the fuel tank will be significantly reduced.

Check out www.toyota.com.au for model differences here in Australia.

    Cheers,

    Jeff

Thanks Jeff. Here in NZ the VX has the spare hidden which then allows for a Top hinged glass tail gate hatch which gives access to the rear of the car without opening the rear door.

We only get an 87 litre tank.

In Aussie is your tank one or two tanks?

The 180 ltrs in the two tanks is great for heading out and about... I must say i dont mind the idea of the flip up top tail gate but not at the sacrifice of 1 of the tanks...

Note the 150 has only 150 litres NOT 180 litres (I wish it still did!!)...87 litres would be a fair pain in the arse!!

I believe it is now only one tank of 150 litres in the 150 series.

150 still has 2 tanks but has one filler hole and the fuel gauge behaves normally unlike the 120.

I wonder if a second tank then could be fitted after purchase?
