  • Climate Control Settings

    Hey All,

I tried searching but could not find anything specific in relation to climate control. I am hoping that someone within this forum may have experience and can suggest something to try before I head back to Toyota. We have a 2012 Altitude that has just clocked over 13,000km and for the entire life of the vehicle whenever we switched the car off and left then came back and started driving again the previous dual zone climate control settings would always be as we left them.

My wife drives the car most days and she has really noticed this in recent weeks with Melbourne's continued hot weather, in and out for school drop offs, swimming lessons etc....

What happens now is that the climate control whenever you return to the vehicle and start driving again is switched off and if you start it by pressing the Auto button it starts at 25 degrees.

Does anyone know how to get this back to saving where the settings are and retaining those when you start driving again? I cant stand my wifes nagging any longer

    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Andrew,

Has the problem occurred since the last service? Maybe the dealer buggered some setting?

I know there are certain climate control settings that can be programmed by the dealer such as always going to re-circ mode when you press 'auto'. The various options that can be programmed are in the owners manual. It seems strange though if yours was working one way then stopped doing it all of a sudden.

Is it only occurring if you start the vehicle with your key when hers was the last one to use the vehicle (and vice-versa)?

    Thanks,

    Ken

      Buy her another vehicle.

      Take up fishing.

Buy yourself a set of headphones.

Just ignore her (usually does not work)

      Play golf.

Invite your parents to stay for a weekend.

Should be some thing you can think of.

wife will cost more to replace than the vehicle

I started playing around with the different settings, feet, demist, face etc and it barely changes, for example no air going direct to windscreen on demist, and when i put on feet it still blows same volume on face.... something is wrong will obviously need to get it looked at.

I would however appreciate if someone could tell me if they have their ac on and then turn off the vehicle when they restart is the ac on at same settings or do you have to begin setting temps/ac on etc again?

          Thanks,
          Andrew

Mine comes on where it was last set apart from the known issue with switching to recirc if the temp outside is hotter.

It may be something simple like a firmware upgrade for the climate control unit.

Who knows....maybe you could get a firmware upgrade for the same wife too!!

Thanks all for the posts, update from past few weeks, Toyota looked at it and the servo mechanism that controls the climate control is gone and requires replacing, ex Japan of course...!!! Which was all good whilst we continued to have this hot weather in Melbourne. On Saturday night however rain and only about 14 degrees driving home turned the a/c on so not to fog up and hopefully keep screen clear and then when to turn up heat......nothing...... only blows freezing cold air....

Long story short the part has arrived and regardless of how much I want to tell them it is a safety issue they will not book me until first week in April. Tried telling the dealership that my wife and kids are in danger from the screen fogging up not to mention the freezing cold car!!! No sympathy at all, I am very unimpressed and plan to formally write to the service manager and dealer principal tomorrow.

I can live for a few weeks with a cold car (although why should i have too?) but to completely disregard the safety concern, not even acknowledge it made me feel very average about the service. I will on principal never return and take my business elsewhere. Rang Toyota to see if I could get part sent to another dealer to have fitted under warranty.... No.

Any advice guys I am pretty dejected about the whole thing and with the car not even a year old (15,000km) it also is waiting on a new tailshaft (yes i have the clunk) ex Japan.

Thanks for listening to my rant,
                        Andrew

Thats pretty poor form from the dealer jinandrew...

If it was me I would do as you said, write to the service mgr and dealer principle and advise them of your disappointment. Once all the warranty work is completed I would phone the dealer principle and personally tell him that you will never have your custom again in service or new vehicle purchasing.

Dealers need to be responsible for looking after their customers, and if that one wont look after you, I'm sure that there are others out there that will welcome you with open arms.

Good luck with what ever you do.

                          Cheers,

                            Andrew,
Is it worth naming this poor performing dealer? I would be really tempted to pop in to a couple of other dealers, explain the problem, and see if someone wants your ongoing business. There is no excuse for poor performance these days.
                            Cheers,

Hi all, has anyone had this changed so that all settings, including recirc, are as the same as they were when you turned the vehicle off?
