  • Capped servicing?

Guys, i just put a deposit down on a 2012 prado with 6,000kms on it.

It was previously owned privately, and dealer told me it was still legiable for capped servicing - however, when i check on teh toyota website with a VIN number it says 'Unfortunately this vehicle is not eligible for Toyota Service Advantage'.

How accurate is the toyota website?

Had a quick look in my service book, did not see anything about warranty transfer to a new owner, however, if it has only travelled a short distance since last year, cannot see why you should not be able to have the capped service costs apply to you as the new owner.

As for the website, cannot say about the accuracy.

If the dealer says it is covered, make sure it is in writing to cover yourself. Some dealers are more honourable than others and will offer things outside of Toyota.

I bought my 09 150 series through a dealer late last year and still got the last TSA service for $210.

Ok thanks guys, should i make a big deal out of it? I mean we bought a car based on it being available - but Toyota says its not. Or is it all overrated?

Yeh $210 is the capped rate, wonder how much the normal service is?

40,000km, 60,000km and 80,000km are major services, well they are in a petrol 120. These are expensive. Most of the others are very minor, basically oil and filter. These are not worth $210.00. It averages out in the end.

To give you an idea I was quoted $1100 for the 40k service (long story as to why I needed to get a quote).

That aside I bought mine from a Holden dealer with 40k and it qualifies.

The fixed price servicing is transferable if it was eligible to start with. The website with VIN # is accurate, make sure you put the correct VIN number in as it easy to make a mistake. If it isn't eligible it generally means it was purchased by a major fleet company or if it was a private owner then perhaps he was a Toyota employee who received similar major discount to hire car companies etc.

                $1100 that hurts!

I've checked the VIN three times and again on VICroads, i'm reading correctly - salesman told us it was covered and it is transferred when car is sold to another person... but my contract of sale says nothing about it and Toyota website suggests otherwise!

I just called the salesman earlier today, and he said it does inc capped servicing but can't find the screen that he saw with it on there and would call me back Tuesday.

My 2010 model 150 petrol saw it's 3rd birthday a few days ago. Purchased it new at Windsor Toyota in western Sydney, and with a good discount off new price.

When purchased new, the salesman offered an extra 3 years warranty on major parts, so long as I serviced the Prado with them (but not covering general consumables such as brake pads, tyres, oil, etc)

Just before the 3 years ran out, the same dealer offered me another deal (and it is only available through Windsor Toyota) of the 3 year warranty, but covering major and minor parts (such as valves, switches and many minor parts, all listed in the contract) up to 200,000 kms distance from date of purchase, towing from any named road in Australia, but not dirt tracks, mud holes, etc (70kms free then a fee charged) to a nominated repairer, battery jump start, fuel provided at cost to me but delivered, should I run out, and fixed price servicing of $249- per service until the 6 year mark expires.

Cost is $695- for the those 3 years. I want to travel to W.A. and back to Sydney, next year or 2, so thought it might be worth it.

Would be interested to know what the petrol services would cost up to the 6 year mark.

Petrol 120 80k service alone was about $800 so at that price sea like a no brainier. I would take an offer like that from my dealer.

When purchasing my 150 the dealer provided a free 3 year extension to the factory warranty provided all services are completed by them. This sounded pretty good on paper but when reading the small print it states "to a maximum value of $1000 per claim" and that "each fault will only be repaired once under the extended warranty", which really means its not worth 2 knobs of goat shit as it wouldn't take much for a repair to rack up $1000 at a toyota dealer.

I will investigate the toyota extended warranty when the time comes and it also maybe something to look into (but i'm not sure if you need to be the first registered owner to be eligible).

But as with ANYTHING promised by a car dealer, if its not in writing they didnt say it! If you havent paid for the vehicle yet (thats your last bargening chip), get them to ammend the contract and dont accept anything less before handing over your hardearned.

This sounds like a good deal dependent on the fine print, especially if it covers out to 200,000km, I wonder if my local dealer will offer the same for my diesel? I'll have to check next time I go to town. Vehicle is just 2 years old with 30,00km on clock, had it in for a 40,000km service 2 weeks ago, under the fixed price servicing arangement. Possibility of a Brisbane-Darwin-Alice Springs-Uluru-Adelaide-Brisbane sojourn in next 12 months, so the vehicle will be running out of its orig 3yr warranty by the time the trip is undertaken. Although I don't plan on any real off-road experiences during the trip, it would be nice to have the peace of mind on a long trip.

I'm on my third prado in seven years and have always opted for the extended warranty for piece of mind. My understanding from this is based on detail from different dealers and the extended warranty is not transferable like the std 3 year warranty is. It doesn't come with capped servicing unless the specific dealer has agreed to it. Funny thing is I have never owned one long enough to get passed the first three years let alone the next. Ah well. The extended warranty is a new first buyer only thing. Capped servicing would be great but with the way engines and drive trains are made with shelf lives now, the parts that break are after three are my long term worries.
Had a 2006 GXL, liked it so much bought a 2008 GXL. Liked the 150 so I bought a black 2010 GXL. Liked them even more and bought 12/2012 GXL. Must like Prado

Sorry but I should have said fourth prado in seven years. I didn't count the 2006 GXL because it was an early 120 with the old 3.0 liter motor and servicing every 5000 Kim's with no capped price servicing. The other three did.
